As above really. First let me explain that im an IT technician by trade (and yes i should probably fix this myself i know i know!!) but im wondering if there is any advice rather than me waste ages troubleshooting.

I have gigabit BT fibre that tests at 800-950 most days. my network is fully wired cat6 gig+ throughout (i have some 2.5gb and 5gb rated kit that sees well over 1gb on the same cables).

I signed up to geforce now in beta and been paying a sub ever since, back then it seemed to work pretty good i played loads of the new doom on it before it was pulled. But ive not been on for a while in fact not actually since going from 300mb fibre to gig.

Fancied a play today and to test performance, effectively since im thinking about a 3080 next week wanted to do a bit of RTX and mull it over.

Ran tests for network and im told 720p max.... hmmm so i look at details im getting 20mb down...

Run fast.com ive got 900mb down and 110 up re run test in geforce now "streaming not recommended" 7mb down...

Ok so i think well my internet is so fast its broken the App. So i manually max everything out 1080 60 etc try to play Quake 2 rtx and it runs like dog poop.

Any ideas whats going on here? Feel free to use as technical language as you can muster im sure ill keep up :D google skim turned up not a lot, lots of kids who dont know if they have good internet, lots of moaning about AT&T and lots of wifi/router issues, none should apply to me really....

TIA guys

You should know dude, the speed is only as fast as the slowest point. If there is a bottleneck between the Nvidia servers and you, that will be it. Doing a network speed test is only beneficial for testing how fast your connection is to that server.

If you have a decent 4G/5G, test the connection using that. If that too is slow, then you know it is Nvidias side.

why dont you get the geforce now server address
do the follllowing:
ping test
route testing
run network monitor to watch for lost packets etc.
run wireshhark to see if packets are being blocked by firewall

you sure nvvidia is saying 20Mbps and NOT 20MB/S :P

20MB/S would be 160Mbps :P

I was really just hoping someone came in here and went "oh yeah GFN does that you need to do "bla" lol.

Well i tested server by server and found that some servers were >50mb (thats all it shows) and many were red <15Mb

So i cancelled lol i guess streaming isnt there yet its such a shame. Roll on thursday and the pre order scramble and im off to 3080 town lol
