hi will a GeIL 2GB (2x1GB) PC3200 Value Dual Channel Kit be ok to run with a opty 146 @ 2.6?

i would have run it divided. but would like lose anythink from runing the kit divided?

or should i get 2x512 pc4000 kit?

thx for any help

If you are running an a64 cpu you will suffer very little performance drop using a divider compared to running 1:1 with your htt speed (fsb). For me the extra cost of pc4000 ram is just not worth the slight gain when used in an a64 system. I would recommend you buy a pc3200 2gb kit with the tightest timings you can.

as long as you stick to 200mhz the geil will do 2.5-3-3-6 @ 2.95v as well. im running at 2.8 on a divider to get memory to 200mhz. :)

You would be better off at the moment getting some of this OCZ 2GB (2 x 1GB) PC3200 Dual Channel Platinum Series as it is on "This Week Only", the timings will be a LOT tighter than the Geil and also there will be head room to overclock.

Another good alternative would be the G.Skill 2GB DDR ZX PC3200 (2x1GB) CAS2 Dual Channel Kit, I currently have this and I can get mine to run at 250Mhz with timings of 3-4-3-8-1T @ 2.7v, but at stock speeds 200Mhz it runs perfectly at 2-3-2-5-1T @ 2.6v.

If you are on a budget then the Geil will be ok, but there will be a slight difference in performance between that and the two mentioned here, if it were me I'd try and spend a little extra and get a kit that will allow it to be overclocked, the GSkill will overclock quite far, just google for some reviews there are plenty out there, but the choice is yours ;)

if i saved abit more, what about the G.Skill 2GB DDR HZ PC4000 (2x1GB) kit. thats around he same price as the G.Skill 2GB DDR ZX PC3200 (2x1GB) kit wouldnt geting the G.Skill 2GB DDR HZ PC4000 be a better idea? Fireblade2K4

It would enable you to run your RAM at 1:1 ratio, as it's standard speed is 250MHz, so if you can afford it, I'd go for it :D

Sorry to hijack, but the geezer who said that Geil Value will do 2.5-3-3-6 with 2.95V, I have my Geil Value running at 2.5-3-3-6, at 2.7V with a slight clock of 216MHz, must have got a good set? :p

Its down to you really, I am running my Opty 146 @ 2.5Ghz currently, my ZX kit will do 1:1 and run at 250Mhz happily 3-4-3-8-1T.

If you want to run higher HTT and keep ram speed as close to it as possible then the HZ kit might be better for you, I chose the ZX because of the tight timings and also its ability to do DDR500 at low volts, 2.7v infact.

My Geil Value does [email protected] with 2.5/3/3/7 1T but i run it on a 333 divider.
