GeiL 2gb pc6400 kit

yes!

think its bad ram tbh

whats ocuk like for rma'ing ram ? as it appears to work when you plug it in and run xp its just after a certain time it crashes....

I'm having problems with this ram to, it will not run at 800mhz (the stated speed) no matter what I try, it always says 667 on the post. Even if I set it up manually.

Nasher, what mobo you got?

Take a look at the problem I had with it...

http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=17668411

I have found that if I up the voltage to 2.1 and the timings to 4-4-4-12, my system is unstable.

As soon as I relax everything by putting the mobo on auto, my system is stable. Everywhere I could guarantee a crash or a problem is now error free.

But mine is definitely running at 800.

Build week 39/2006 on my ram.

I have it running at 800mhz now and it seems fine. Seems like they have the wrong "lable" coded onto the chip. So if I let it set up on auto it sets it to 667 and is unstable.

Im running it at 2.00v, 4-4-4-12 and no problems so far.

The board I'm using is an Abit AW9D-MAX.

Loads of ppl are having probs with the Geil now, id say its a bad batch, got mine about a month odd ago now and it runs fine at 4-4-4-12, 2.1v.

Test it for errors with memtest.

Mine is week39 stuff and nothings up with it as far as I know. Did a memtest in Windows for around 35minutes and didn't come up with any errors.

I seem to be suffering with this RAM, went 3 passes of memtest86 with no errors, boot up into Windows run blend with Orthos and 5 minutes it errors.

Now I run SmallFFTs with the same settings, and receive no errors for 12 hours.

Blend for an hour, same settings:

Now ran Memtest86+ v1.65, a more recent version of the program, and it's picked up a recurring error on each pass.

Test 8
Address: 0003C37E310 - 963.8mb
err-bits: 00000040
count chan: 2
good: ffffffff
bad: ffffffbf

On 4-4-4-12/400MHz +0.3v, everything else left at automatic - RMA?

Can I just send this stuff back and have it replaced with something that actually works properly, eg Corsair?

Sounds like you may have the same problem as I did.

http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=17668411

Memtest could run for hours with no errors, while Orthos could manage 2 minutes on a good day.

On two identical PC's over two weeks every game I played would crash, as would 3dMark etc., and apps like Photoshop, Indesign etc.

Several days with all settings on auto, and not one single crash.(1.8v and 5-5-5-18)

I was concerned about the volts/slack timings causing a lack of performance, but compared to a lot of guys on here with the same set-up but with 2.1v and 4-4-4-12, mine holds its own.

Chances of OCUK agreeing that the memory is faulty - ZERO, so I won't even bother with an RMA. Might be a different matter if you plan a big OC on your system and can bear to be without your ram for a couple of weeks.

I've got the exact same problem, pretty horrible actually, i've could have bought cheaper memory which would have done the same :\, guttted really.
It basically comes down to being forced to run the modules at 1.8v(!!) and 5-5-5-18 instead of 4-4-4-12. There is also no possibility to go over 400mhz, or else it will start throwing errors aswell :\.

So basically im bound to loose timings and 8x400 or 9x400. Which just sucks, especially since my chip can go up to 3500 :\. But due to this memory i cant go higher than 3200 :(.

As said RMA is a problem, since memtest is fine, but it should be rma'd, since the product doesnt perform the way it's supposed to.

oh well :\ :(

Don't suppose anyone from OCUK is monitoring this thread who would care to comment?

I can foresee OCUK blaming individual set-ups for causing the problem, rather than it being the memory's fault, as I assume that we are in the minority with this problem.

Certainly if it's holding you back from getting the OC you want because it won't give you a stable system at its quoted specs, I would be pretty ****** off.

As far as i know, you cant tell from the outside, but after some more investigating: week 39 seems like a pretty bad batch, my 3rd set of bad ram in a row! woot :(
