Hi all,
I have the GeIL 2GB (2x1GB) PC6400 800MHz DDR2 Dual Channel Kit installed with my E6300 (and rest of kit as in my signature). I've recently jumped from the F4e BIOS to F9 and the settings had to be defaulted to get it to boot again.

My query is with the GeIL 2GB (2x1GB) PC6400 800MHz DDR2 Dual Channel Kit, I want to overclock to 3Ghz but seemingly it won't boot without a Blue Screen of Death at 430x7=3Ghz. I know the memory timings are 4-4-4-12 default, but for some reason I recall having them at 5-5-5-15 or something to get it to be more stable? I have the RAM using the +0.3v setting already and going to +0.4v didn't make a difference. When I dropped the CPU to 429x7 instead of 430x7 it allowed me to boot.

CPU-z v1.38 says:
Frequency: 428Mhz
FSB DRAM: 1:1
5-5-5-15

Any recommendations for my RAM settings please?

Thanks!

Sim thing has happened to me on a 965P-S3 though(technically the same board) i upgraded to the latest bios and before it would happily sit at 3gig at 4.4.4.12 but on this bios it won't post at all at 4, have to let it default the ram.

Sounds like a very similar prob I had. Try this, set ram timings to 5-5-5-15 @ +0.3 vdimm, and go into the second or third section of the bios and locate "support legacy usb" and disable it. Sounds daft I know, but I couldn't get me geil above 850mhz (425mhz) no matter what I did. I disabled this legacy option, and went straight up 3.2ghz, with the memory about 460mhz (920mhz)!
Worth a try. Post back with results.

I have the same set up with it running at 3100,

RAM = +0.3v
MCH = +0.1v
PCI Exp = 100
FSB = +0.1v
CPU = 1.300v

Ram timings i set to 5 5 5 15 to let it have a breather :)

set ram divider to 2

FSB to 440, ram = 880 cpu = 3100

but dont jump straight to this, try 400 to start of with as this is 2800mhz/800mhz which is stock for the RAM then increase it slightly.

Agreed 100%

Ok I just checked and I had it running at 2.8Ghz which has been fine over the last few days playing Oblivion etc. I checked my settings against those above and they were mostly the same except:

I have PCI Overvoltage Control set to +0.1v.

Also noticed that in the RAM config, it mentions Refresh to Act Delay but the number in there was different to what it would have been under SPD Auto by a few digits.

Also I have Virtualization Technology set to ON, so I turned it off but I'm not sure if its needed or not, have read somewhere else on here to have this switched off.

I switch USB Legacy Storage off as suggested in the post above.

CPU Voltage which I had at 1.4000v, you said to try 1.300v which is a bit lower than the default of 1.32500V so I left it at 1.4000V.

Upon saving, the PC kept switching itself on and off but would not boot, I hit reset and it seemed to boot up to the BIOS check with but no video. I switched it off and on again and it booted up fine but at default settings, so I re-entered the settings above and it worked fine after about 4 automatic on and offs. It seems fine at 2.8GHz and so upped the FSB from 400 to 415 which gives me 2.9Ghz and 830Mhz RAM speed. It booted fine and I'm typing this on it now.

The RAM timings are still at 5-5-5-15 which is what I had before and what was suggested.

Thanks for the help!

I have a 6600 + Gigabye DS3 + Geil 2x1GB PC6400 800MHz

The RAM says it requires 2.1V but the tweaks only show the adjustment voltage, not the actual value. Is the starting value 2.1V and then it's adjusting from there?

Agreed the information that the BIOS presents could be better as it fails to show you the current voltage, just what you are going to add to it.
No, the motherboard sets the RAM's voltage to less than what it should be so you have set it to +0.3v to get to the required 2.1v.

Where can I tweak the memory timings?

I'm using the latest BIOS, F10 I think it is. I have my memory set at +0.3V to get the required 2.1V but if I change anything else I get all sorts of problems, usuall no POST and sometimes blue screen.

Is this BIOS useless for overclocking? If so, which version should I use?

And should I be disabling any CPU power management stuff to stop SpeedStep or anything else screwing up the overclock?

Press CTRL+F1 in *** main BIOS screen to open up extra options in MIT

F10 is not a bad overclocking BIOS. I think F6 is probably the best overall.

Definitely.
