I have :-

GeIL 2GB (2x1GB) PC6400C4 800MHz Ultra Low Latency DDR2 Dual Channel Kit
EVGA 680i Motherboard

Now i understand this Ram runs at 800mhz frquency.

now in the bios i can change the DDR frequency (actual frequency = DDR / 2).

When adjusting this setting it increses the frequency shown in CPU-Z, so a DDR frequency of 900 is 450mhz frequency in CPU-z.

the max DDR frequency available in the bios is 1400, this would give a 700mhz frequency in CPU-z.

my question is, how do you get to the 800mhz frequency (1600 ddr frequency in bios) ? ??

is the 800mhz shown in the Bios (400mhz in cpu-z) correct for the ram, or am I indeed supposed to get it to 1600 in bios (800 in cpu-z) ??

thanks

OK, i think ive just made 800mhz memory run at 900mhz, i think CPU-z isjust displaying it wrong or im reading it wrongly (the bios is the correct clock but CPU is the DDR / 2 value).

I say this becasue 3Dmark06 says im running ram at 900mhz.

if im understanding you correctly, you want to run your 800mhz (so 400mhz really) sticks at 1600 (so 800 really). i dont think there is any DDRII ram that will run that high. some people i tihnk have managed to get 1.1ghz (so 550mhz) out of those geil sticks but no one ever has gotten 1.6ghz out of any DDRII i dont think.

I think he is refering to ddr2 so 400mhz x 2 = 800mhz. so 450mhz is an effective clock of 900mhz.

he is refering to that yes, but he posed the question

which as far as i am aware just isnt possible with DDRII ram.

yeh i was reading it wrong, on my Bios the the CPU clock of 200mhz is displayed as 800mhz (QUAD data Rate)

using the the same reasoning with the ram, i thought the 800mhz displayed was only 400mhz (DOUBLE data rate), but 800mhz shown was actually what the ram is supposed to run at.

Ive set mine too 800Mhz manually after seeing in CPU-Z that its running at 368MHz, I also set the voltage to 2.1v and CPU-Z still displays its running at 368MHz, I dont understand this memory stuff, and the overclocking of ram is another grey area >_<

Anyone got time for a detailed explanation? or a link to a good guide? :(
