Hi, I have a GA-P35C-DS3R and 2GB of GeIL 6400 Ultra from overclockers, and it's been great so far. Runs at 4-4-4-12 as it should.

Do you guys think it's worth adding another 2GB of this to my setup? I game, and have recently purchased, among other things, Crysis. My GFX is only an 8800GTS 320mb (overclocked), and is it likely the extra RAM might help performance, or is the problem of having not enough VRAM only going to be helped by a gfx upgrade? I run at 1680x1050 with a custom crysis config, but probably about medium detail. I get between 18 and 30 fps, averages about 25 fps.

I also noticed this stuff has gone up in price more recently, is now a good time to buy or is it being phased out? Also, how will the mobo like running with a different matched pair aswell, e.g. 2GB OCZ 6400 stuff? (to get 4GB).

Cheers

If you have got the cash it won't do any harm, ive got a similar setup, with the same ram, and it still runs at 4-4-4-12 with 4GB. The prices are just going up because of demand from the asian markets i believe.

You have a 64 bit OS? If you don't, it'll only detect 3 and a bit gigs of it. But still 3 and a bit gigs is better then 2 gigs, buy now, great prices for RAM compared to last year

If you're using Vista, you'll certainly see an improvement.
As the previous post pointed out though - you'll need a 64bit OS to fully address the memory.
The kit should work fine so long as they're the same.

I've got 4Gb of this in XP which sees 3.25Gb, loads games up quicker esp maps when online, with COD4 reduced map load times by 2-3 secs

If you have vista 64bit then yea get 4GB, but i wouldn't for xp or a 32bit OS

My XP now only detects 3Gb (2.98Gb to be precise) but still it's an improvement and for the price you might as well get another 2Gb kit in case you upgrade to 64bit in the future. Besides OCUK hardly sells any 1Gb kit anymore.

That was my way of thinking too, only paid a shade over £30 for extra 2Gb, will prob move to Vista by summer anyway so have already got it, besides Office apps def load quicker even with 3.25Gb and loading games maps has made the wait time less annoying

Thanks, thats useful to know.

Reckon i'll buy another 2GB then.

Oh, and I am running vista 64-bit, why deny the future, i've had hardly any problems with it being 64 as opposed to 32, driver compatibility is actually quite good nowadays. That's a whole different topic though, i'll stop lest I deviate too far.
