hi,
ive got a stick of geil ram 512mb ddr400 pc3200
cl=2.5-6-3-3

ive installed it in my pc as i was given it by a mate and my system just reboots just before it gets to windows.

i have a amd sempron 2400+ cpu and a abit va-20 mainboard with up to date bios

but cant think why my system resets when i install this ram

any ideas

Is it loading up windows when it reboots, or does it fail on the initial screen (POST). Any warning beeps (Assuming you have a case speaker).

sometimes it gets to windows screen.most of the time it gets to the windows logo and resets

no warning beeps

dont mean to sound stupid but how do i set the timings in the bios where do i set that and what do i set it to
ive found different setting saying adjust by spd and manual now but i dont know what settings to change to

and also should i try the 4 different dim voltages in the bios one at a time. i think my board goes up to 2.6v or something,someone suggested 2.75v but my board doestnt have that in the bios not that i can see anyway

usually to set manual timings you have to go into the part of the bios the allows you to tweak your components. I dont know what that would be called on yours but its going to be something to do with tweaking or something lol.

Once in that menu, you have to choose to set things manually not on auto.
Since I am new to this myself, I can't advise much more so others I am sure will be able to assist you better
 
Set the timings to these: 3-4-4-7 or 2.5-4-4-7. I would say that with the symptoms you are describing, it's because the timings are too tight. This regularly happens to me when i modify my OC.
 
when you say 3-4-4-7 or 2.5-4-4-7 what do u mean
i found where i can change to 2.5 or 3

but the 4-4-7 not sure which ones i have to change there are so many things i can change

ill reboot into bios write down what setting i can change and post it here

(Active to cmd)(TRCD) 2t, 3t , 4t , 5t
(Dram Burst Lenght) 4 , 8
(Dram command Rate) 1t , 2t

Also Dimm voltages are 2.54 2.58 2.63 2.67

and i found this setting if any use auto detect pci/dimm clk

so what ones do i choose
