GeIL Ultra Low Problem // OCuk

Geil changed the way the SPD is programmed. You have 4 sticks of PC6400 ram. CPU-Z is showing the SPD programmed settings.

This was said before, I know where your coming from with it, and the problems could well be down to the motherboard.

I change them manually and the system crashes all the time even @ 900mhz on the geil.

And now anyway my motherboard will cease to overclock. I'll wait for a reply back from Gigashite before calling OCUK... this is what i get back from them:

We have checked this issue with below components:

Motherboard: 965P-DS4
BIOS: F11h (attached)

CPU: E6600
Memory: Apacer DDR2 800 1GB X 2 (we do not have Geil memory available for testing)
VGA: NVidia 8800GT

OS: Win XP SP2

Utility: CPU-Z, HWMonitor

But they already know I've flashed the BIOS 3 times, they already know that I've followed the sticky guide on the DS4 for OC'ing... Damn them!

ALSO please note the chips were all made in the same week/year according to CPUz
You mention 900MHz, what speed are you trying to run the memory at?

I also own two sets like you and have a E6600 and 965 DS4. I see no problems with either set when configured manuall to run at 400x8=3.2 with a 2.0 multiplier on the ram, +0.300v

I think they are correct, and I think you're just a bit unlucky that they don't clock well. After all, if you've bought PC6400, then 800MHz is all you can guarantee to get. Anything else is a bonus. If they're running OK at 800MHz, but carp out at 900MHz, then I don't see you can complain much.

Just added a video for Gigabyte Tech, Can anyone seriously see anything wrong here? Apart from not settings speeds ofc!

BTW The GEIL will hit 1000, but im complaining because at 900 its unstable mable!

Infact if you go read the reviews some have it at 1115mhz ;) Thats why you buy this GeIL RAM :)

Mine seem to bork around 900... but since i paid for 800MHZ guaranteed, that's what i have, they guarantee 800 cause all sticks meet that, some are lucky to get much higher some aren't, same as CPUs and overclockibility.

BTW The GEIL will hit 1000, but im complaining because at 900 its unstable mable!

Says who? someone else with different sticks from different manufacturing batches and quite likely different revisions?

I don't see how OCUK are at fault, the RAM meets the description you ordered too.

And your uppity attitude winds me up

if its stated to run at 800mhz and it runs at 800mhz at the timmings they specify (which have to be set manually, which you are told by Geil on a note that comes with the ram) then theres nothing you can do to get it swapped, it does what it says on the tin, thats all they have to supply

So whats stopping people shipping 5300 and saying clock it to 6400?

Because I got 4 Chips made in the same week as the same year, and 2 say completely different things!

You have PC6400 memory that should run at PC6400 (800MHZ, 4-4-4-12, 2.1v). Anything above that and your overclocking and not guaranteed to have stable memory. If it is unstable at 800MHZ, 4-4-4-12, 2.1v then you have grounds to complain. Just because someone else has a set that runs at 1000MHz doesn't mean your set(s) will, I know mine don't even get close to 1000MHz in my setup.

My GEIL ddr1 was like that (2x 2x 512mb), showing different speeds/timigs in the SPD. They were 2 identical kits but bought 12-18 months apart. I think one kit read "133,166,166" and the other kit read "133,166,200" They would reach about 220mhz (rated 200). Just did the best that i could with them and left them. I would either make do or auction the lot off and buy a 2x2gb kit.

I did manage to mix the banks up when i had removed the memory for various reasons and pairing them back up did make things better

To go much past 900mhz I need to over volt my GeIL, to get them to run @ 1000mhz @ 5-4-4-12 they need about 2.3v

If they run @ 4-4-4-12 @ 2.1v then I dont see how you can RMA them as that is there rated speed and ofc you will need to set that manually in the BIOS as the BIOS defaults to slow mode so that all RAM will run no isses when its first installed

Both sets showing the same week/year is just a bug in cpuz (my old set used to do the same) if you swap the banks over or test 1 set at a time that will change.

The original sets of this always showed up as pc2-5300 on cpuz as a lot of motherboards were unable to boot it at the rated 2.1V hence by default they booted at 1.8V & 333mhz

My experiance with this ram is this, the first batches of this ram spd was 5300 when the were costing from £130-£200 per 2 gig the later £30 stuff has had a spd of 6400 so its wierd that they are the same week. to be honest I have had quite a bit of this ram over the last 2 years building pc's for friends and I have never found a set that wont do DDR 900 - 950 @ 4-4-4-12 timings 2.2 volts. I guess you have just been unlucky

ok to sum this up, he has ram thats got wrong spd files and thats about it, i guess thats good enough to rma to geil themselves, providing the stickers have pc6400 on and get another newer set, but asking for 1000+ is too much for these, i think Gibbo when he did a review on them was given a golden sample ;)

at the end of the day why do you think there so cheap,
