I have 2 x 512 cas 2.5 and 2 x 512 cass 2 (2gb total) in a dfi ultra-d running an opteron 165 overclocked to 2.1 ghz.

I'd like to know what timings I should be able to set my ram to to tighten them up a little, or indeed if it's worth it?

Just use the one thread so it's easier to see whats happening :p

Could you not get past 2.1Ghz?

The highest I can go is 2.16ghz - fsb is 240 htt is x3 ram is 166mhx 5/6 ht link (chipset frequency?) is 720mhz

It runs stable at 240 fsb full load but I tried to push to 245 fsb and upon reboot it lasted 30 secs then I got bsod with the following error - IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL

I read on these forums that the HT Link should be as close to 1000mhz as possible but with the htt at x 3 I need to get the fsb to over 300mhz right?

I'm a looooong way off that.

temps are fine btw

Doesnt matter, wont affect performance unless its mega low.

Try clocking with 1 stick of ram

would they really limit that much?

I'm expecting this chip to reach at least 2.5ghz and it doesn't seem stable at 2.1!

If it is the memory then I'd need to buy different stuff to make the cpu clock better ... if that's the case I may as well have sold all my existing components and gone for a c2d setup because the only reason I didn't was the thought of having to buy new ram as well as cpu and mobo ...

thanks for the help anyway

It should clock further than 2.1, definately. Most people are gettin 2.6+ List your bios settings so we can figure out whats up.

4 sticks of geil pc3200 really wont clock that well. change that ram ratio to 133 and try again. i couldnt clock my 2x512mb geil much further than 214mhz.

FYI, i used to run my opty 148 at 275 x 11 (3025mhz). with the ram on a 133 devider that would be 183mhz. not perfect but unless you have a 150mhz option for the ram its as good as you're getting:)

Hi,
I overclocked(if you can call it that)my 64 x2 3800+ with regular heatsink&fan.
2x512 Geil value ram(PC3200)at normal volts

Ram was set to 333
ram settings were
2.5
11
14
3
2
6
3
2
2
4

And for CPU 10X
HT(?)multi =4X
HTT 240
So I get 2.4 Gig instead of 2Gig
On my Abit AN8 Ultra
Will try it out with 4x512 of same ram
