Hey. A few weeks ago i came on here asking if upgrading to 2gb of geil value from ocuk was a good choice. I ordered it and it arrived promptly the next day.

However when i installed it both my hard drives somehow became corrupt. So i lost all my data and reinstalled windows. Every thing was fine for about 30 mins then when i tried to play ANY game my screen used to flicker to black then back to the game. It did this constantly which made games unplayable. I tried testing the memory in every way possible. Eventually i ran memtest and it failed after 15 minutes. So i thought RAM is nackerd, ill sort the RMA out tomorrow.

When i removed the GEIL ram i noticed there were scorch marks along the pins on one stick of ram which were'nt there when i ordered them. Now my pc wont POST with any type of memory i try. Is my mobo nackerd? Im fearing the worst.

Also do you think OcUk would replace the memory? I never exceeded 2.8v when trying to get the memory to run stable. The GEIL website said the value ram was warrantied up to 2.8v.

cheers :(

Hi Hardkore,
this does sound very unfortunate. Have you looked at the plastic DIMM slots and checked for melting or scorch marks. Also, if you can, check underneath the motherboard. It may have got so hot it melted the solder (believe me, it gets very hot, i have some (i assume it's DDR)). I run mine at 2.9V. It is very difficult to get it stable. For now, i'm having to use 2T command rate, just to test it.

Also, you mentioned gaming. I had a similar problem, it turned out my VRAM clock speed was too high, which resulted in me getting pwnt and eventually restarting the computer. The increased bandwidth with the memory may have caused problems.

Just FYI, i'd recommend directing an 80mm or larger fan directly at the RAM next time.

I do know that the GeIL runs extremely hot, even without overvolting or overclocking.

HTH,
Scott.

looked at the mobo and cant see any marks as such. Maybe the [ins in the DIMM socket have bitten the dust. At one point i had a desk fan blowing on my RAM at fullspeed with the side of the case which didnt help matters any. Although i found my giving the ram abit more power it prolonged the crashes a little bit.

At first i thought i was my power supply, i unplugged 2 case fans and a HDD and it went 2 days without any crashing but then it started again. The whole time my desk fan was on full blast.

When and if i get a replacement set ill try changing a few settings. What do you suggest for best performance/ stability?

thanks for your help mate :)
