I don't have to buy a PSU at the moment, but the one I do have is quite old and I have the chance of buying a type 4 at a reasonable price. Fitting a new PSU to a computer is a PITA but I do intend building a new one in the near future.
So am I better off waiting and buying a Gen 5 or buying the offer of a gen 4 ?

Additionally what happens to all the legacy HDD etc from a previous builds, and the Gen 5 connectors going to be compatable because they don't look to be.

I'm assuming you have a corsair psu hence why you're talking about gen 4 connectors?
Yes it would appear I've been confused by the photos on their site which actually show the end which connects to the PSU and not the end which powers the component. They didn't make it very clear!

yeah if you want to upgrade your current corsair psu but leave the current cabling intact you will have to get one of their psus that will take their gen 4 connectors
The current one is an OCZ Gold 1000W which is now quite elderly but still works fine.
