At the moment they are only allowed to do short cuts of what would be produced naturally or through traditional crossbreeding programmes.

GM can involve the introduction of genes from other species and will not be permitted.

Hope it stays that way.

Some countries still have an outright ban on GM foods so i think we need to be careful not alienate ourselves when we are still opening up new trade routes after Brexit.
And I can understand that point of view. TBH, I think a lot of the base is the standard "Frankenstein foods" nonsense.

To me, it is very reminiscent of the moral panic if the 80s/90s around D&D = "path to Satan!" allied with a healthy dose of science denying, fear mongering.

Of course, I'm keen to ensure that any GM organisms are fully tested and controlled. And let's leave dinosaurs alone.

I don't get it, how is GE worse than GM or food processing that we've had for ages? Most food is processed now in the search for profit. Been that way all my life.
I am not commenting on whether the food is safe or not, since I don't know the science myself, but usually protestors simply don't understand the science behind these things. They latch on to something without any reason. Why, for example, have they been perfectly happy with 4G and yet are burning down 5G towers? I do understand the science there, and that, to me, makes no sense whatsoever.

My biggest concern is companies patenting these seeds and then not permitting farmers to replant seeds they get from their crops. You can end up in a situation where your entire crop production is tied to paying royalties to a company.

I hope they keep a good stock of non GM seeds for use if something extreme happens.

Isn't that already the case?

The last time i looked into it a lot of the banning of it was based on public opinion and not the science, I'll admit that when i looked into it i was very much in the no blooming way camp but after investigating i changed my mind.

Also if you don't know how dangerous 5's can be then you best duck when i start throwing them. ;)
