General Anti Virus Question

I was wondering if someone know how a computer virus scan works, I looked in Mr Google but no positive result.

Yeah thinks,

Had a look at that earlier. Need to know how antiviruses like norton, mcafee, avg etc scan,

but i assume its the same way as described in wikipedia
