Hi :)

Something I've always wondered...
If you have a multicore CPU like mines a quad core,
Does that mean I have 4 cores working together to create 3.61GHz?

Or is is classed as 3.61GHz x4?

Probably a dumb qestion to those in the know, but I'm not lol

No such thing as a stupid question :)

A 3.61GHz Quad core like yours is one CPU with four cores, each running at a clockspeed of 3.61GHz.

Therefore if you compared your CPU with a Phenom II X2 @ 3.61GHz - in single threaded applications both CPUs will run about as fast as each other (in each case one 3.61Ghz core is being utilised). However, if the application can use 4 cores or more then the X4 will perform significantly better than the X2.
