General discussion for Cool n" Quiet

I use C'n'Q and no problems. Keeps my system cool (I would not say quiet but this is due to my chipset fan ASUS A8N Sli Deluxe :( ).

It also drops the power consumption considerably. Iy should work even if you had overclocked at stock volts (this is what people have shared at least, I have not OCed yet).

Thanks PaulProteus but I would like to be more specific.
I mean post more info.
What are the temperatures (disabled vs. enabled) of course at full load. :)

Under load you will experience the temps that are typical for the processor. At full load you will not practically use C'n'Q anymore. This is simply to safe energy when your CPU is at iddle. Usually I enjoy this as if you only use the CPU for surfing Internet, reading e-mail, word processing etc. it stays at low 30 deg. I have however 5 case fans, huge case (Antec server tower) and this could explain the temps. Under full load I get about 45-48. I am with a stock HSF.

If you have CPU-Z you should be able to see that when it is not stressed instead of having the multiplier set to 12 (in my case X2 4800) it drops it down to 5, so it runs at 1 GHz.

I hope that helps, but keep aksing if I could be of any help.

Thanks again for info.
GKR  I tried for first time to enable this option on nForce3 system (MSI mainboard) and the CPU frequency became smaller (dropped multiplier) as you said.

its surposed to drop the multiplier, thats completely normal part of C&Q. It will shift back up when the cpu is given something to do.

I think you also need the AMD drivers installed as well to make it work on some systems.

But that's exactly what C&Q is, it'll drop the multiplier and Vcore voltage to reduce idle temps and power consumption.

I use CAQ on my A8N-CSM, in control panel power mangagment set to laptop, driver installed. Drops from 2.2 to 1ghz and runs cooler, most of the time I don't need the extra power but it's there when I do.

Thanks for info PaulProteus actually my mainboard is for RMA but I will check the ASUS official site.
Just to play again with this option but I don't think to enable it :D

Three Steps to Cool'n'Quiet™

  • Enable Cool'n'Quiet in your motherboards BIOS

  • Download and install AMD Opteron™/AMD Athlon™ 64 X2 Processor with AMD PowerNow!™
Technology Driver for Windows XP and Windows Server 2003 Version (x86 and x64 exe) 1.3.2.16 (see all)

  • Change to 'Minimal Power Management'

i use this with my OC, drops multi to 5 and vcore to 1.25 cpu @ 1277

and on load cpu @ 2.8ghz

temps are around 33 mark idle and load is 49 this is with or without CnQ as load bumps vcore and multi.

tbh that is the reason i bought a opty 175 so i can keep settings as my 3700SD.

Love CnQ lol oh on Vista works great no driver needed.
