What used to be a UK
I won a photography competition earlier this year which involved a couple of free night's in a number of different hotels. The hotel chain also used my image for advertising. I'm trying to trace a number of the other winners. The problem is-the hotel chain keeps ignoring my messages to them with regard to claiming the prize. I'm at the point now where it has become blatantly obvious the hotel chain don't want to give me the prize-and I'm not too keen on staying in any of their premises given their treatment. Would the next step be to contact Trading Standards or some other professional body/association (I wouldn't have a clue about)? The hotels are currently trading without any issues. Thanks

Research who the managing director is and write to them. It will then probably get passed to a separate complaints department attached to the board of directors. They will launch a rocket up someone's backside to get the matter resolved.

Honestly unless this is a ma' and pa' hotel outfit, throwing your toys out of the pram and saying "I DONT WANT TO STAY THERE ANYWAY" is a bit childish. What are you asking for instead? Money? Of course you are asking for money.

I've found the ASA to be really helpful where you think there's some issue

I thought competitions had to be run in line with some specific legal requirements that are quite restrictive - there may even be an ombudsman/Commissioner

Contact whoever ran the competition - it's likely to be an outside agency running the competition and not the hotel brand themselves...Check the T&C's of the competition you entered and go from there

Tbh I'm just asking for a little honesty/integrity from the hotel chain that ran the competition. I don't see any harm in that. I'm just fed up if having to fight for everything. My motivation for entering it in the first place was because I thought it would be a nice surprise for the Mrs not myself. So I'm a bit disappointed about the chains reluctance to give me advice.

Edit: As an update I've managed to contact one of the other prize winners so hopefully they will be able to confirm whether they were successful in claiming their prize and how they went about getting it-later.

Think the ASA dealt with that recent Brewdog competition which was deemed to be misleading, might be worth a try.

I don't believe anything came of that though?

Article from the beeb:
In its ruling, the watchdog said it "understood the prize consisted of 24 carat gold-plated replica cans", but added "because the ads stated that the prize included a solid gold can when that was not the case, we concluded the ads were misleading".

The ASA said it had told Brewdog not to state or imply that consumers would receive a solid gold can when it was not the case.

So basically they had a slap on the wrist and were told not to state that customers would receive a solid gold can when it was not the case - which seems blatantly obvious to me seeing as the competition has run its course, and they're not likely to do another.
