Hi, I hope this is in the right section, i couldn't decide whether it belonged here or in General Hardware.
I'm looking for a bit of help troubleshooting.
I built a system about a year ago, and lately it's just been misbehaving, lots of hangups and lagging. I can't put my finger on a particular issue, but its lots of small things and it's very frustrating.
System Specs are:
i5 2500k (stock cooler & speeds, never got round to OC'ing)
ASUS p8p67-M Micro ATX
4GB OCZ Special Ops DDR3
1GB Gainward Phantom GTX 560ti
600w Corsair CX PSU
2x 150GB HDDs in RAID0
Some of the first that come to mind:
-Programmes become unresponsive and I have to close them using task manager a lot more often than I used to.
-opening apps seems to take a lot longer than it used to.
-switching windows is less responsive that it used to be; ie its no longer virtually instant and sometimes it can a few seconds. This seems particularly evident in Chrome, Office apps and the file explorer.
-Sometimes when switching into applications that have video parts to them, the video part will be blank and I have to just wait, refresh or restart it. For instance if I switch into a youtube tab, the video will be transparent, and just show a section of the tab I switched from where the player should be. Sometimes the player is completely whited out, and that portion of the screen seems to be "above" the rest of the page: scrolling down to comments and they will also dissapear under the white section where the player should have been. Similar things happen in winamp or other video apps.
Some things I have done in attempts to solve this general unresponsiveness:
-Full virus & malware scans regularly, nothing shows up.
-cleaned out all temporary files etc, used CCleaner to check the registry.
-updated a bunch of drivers, AFAIK all are now up to date, including BIOS
I'm no expert but could my RAM be dodgy? I bought them at a low price right after OCZ stopped producing RAM. Do i need to replace them/buy more?
Could it be a HDD problem? I cut corners a little bit with the HDDs when I was building this; funds were tight so instead of buying new HDDS i used 2 old ones I had lying around, in a RAID0 array, and atm I only have about 30GB free space left. I would have replaced these earlier but HDDs are so expensive now and I spent all my student loan on beer
Any other ideas? Anything I can do to give more info? At my wits end here, its not a huge world ending problem but its so frustrating that my PC isn't running as well as it should. Any help is appreciated!
