So with moving house (and a few friends moving too) i'd like a nice general purpose multi tool.

finding pry bar, screw drivers, blade sciosrs, pliers etc to be needed for lots of little jobs and its a pain trapising home to the tool cabinet to get anything.

doesnt need al lthe super dooper out door survival stuff. just a nice odd job tool that can live in the kitcken drawer

i know lethermans are good but they are quite pricey.

seems like for the money you spend on them you could buy a simmilar range of full size toolss

For the occasional job multi-tools are have their place especially scissors, blade and pliers. But as a screwdriver I find them pretty useless. Never found a comfortable one in prolonged use.

Interested in getting one myself too after seeing this thread! Had a look for Gerber and screwfix came up, theirs plenty of others in there like dewalt too.

yeah its not for prolonmged use it for the one or two screws where its not worth trrapising out to the garage to get the proepor tools

they be expensive but i'd suggest they are worth it. good quality and an outstanding warranty. bought my father one a few years back, after he'd had it a while (well out of warranty) he broke something or other on it (can't remember now what it was) - I contacted Leathermans CS via email and was directed to their UK warranty partner. sent it off and a week later an entire new tool arrived back! quite a few stories floating round the internet about their warranty service and how it seems like its practically a life time warranty

Absolutley love my victorinox swiss tool, use it several times a day at work and its never let me down in 6 years :). They are a bit pricey now though :(

Gerber are very very hit and miss - I've a Gerber Suspension that is decent but some of their others ones aren't very user friendly or poor quality.

No experience with them but I saw someone had a Stanley Fatmax the other day which looked quite good (EDIT: Think its basically the same as the DeWalt 16 in 1 linked above).

Leatherman without a doubt, I have 2 Wave tools (old version and new) You get what you pay for, I picked up both of mine in the states so didn't pay UK prices. If I hadn't travelled I would have paid UK prices for the quality and customer service, Do you know anyone going to the states?

If you want cheap, something like this may be worth looking at

You can get a Gerber or Leatherman for £30-£40 if you did want to spend a little more. I have the Gerber (got one when it was £20) and it is better than the cheap alternatives, but not as good as the more expensive Leatherman (as you'd expect). The higher end Leatherman are a step up again, but to be honest I've been disappointed with the cheaper Leatherman (those below the Wave in my experience - the Wingman etc).

Ive got two Leathermans, Wave and Charge - They're both great and I'd replace them with the same ones again without hesitation.

Leatherman, as above there is a reason why they are a little pricey, you get what you pay for.

I bought one when I was 19, I'm now 40 and it still gets used at least once a week for something.

I thought I had lost it a year or so ago so it was going to be excuse to buy another, however I found it and as its still in great condition I couldn't justify. :( :p
