Howdy all. Not specifically knowing where to post this as I am unable to pin down the issue but I am of hopes people here would have the technical knowledge to shed some light on the issue.

My PC has lately been producing rather erratic screeching, grinding and generally abnormal noises from its quiet hum its held steadily for the past three years for the past week or so. Its gone quiet the past two days but I've found a few issues on the actual running of my PC. Programs slowing down massively, mainly more top end games that require the higher specifications, or MMOs which consume a lot of processing power to my recollections.

Lower specification programs and games do not seem to be suffering at all, and general day to day programs from web browsers and other tools are not suffering. A thing I have noticed though is I can always tell when said programs are about to slow down because my computer raises in volume from the tower (not the actual audio output from the PC.) for a few moments before going back to normal.

The slow downs in themselves generally include loss of frames per second, lack of response, such as rather than instant or near instant response to input it would take 4-5 seconds, nothing larger than that I have noticed. Now, I've checked inside my PC and my Graphics card fan is still running smoothly, my memory also seems fine and I doubt either could produce the levels of noise which leave me with an inkling of my CPU fan is going on its last legs which is in turn making my Processors heat up to high hell or my HDD is going off.

Now, just to request, what are your opinions on the matter?

The funny noises might suggest hard drive failure, which would also account for most of the other problems. The sound thing is odd. So the audio output gets louder just before the problem?

Ah no, the actual sounds from the tower of the PC, the screeching, grinding and such gets louder prior to the issues taking place.

possibly PSU issues. If that is failing other components will not be stable. put your ear near the rear grill and i can prety much put money on it being that

The last time I had a PC that used to make a lot of noise, was back on Windows 95, used to make a horrible grunting sound when first started up, which was the power supply, the noises could be coming from anything mate, have you tried leaving the side panel off to listen directly to where the sound is coming from?

I can safely say it isn't my PSU, when I did initial checks the during the week where the sounds were constantly it was coming from the central area of my tower which is the location of my HDD and CPU. My PSU has consistently been running very quietly since I put it in about a year ago when I also replaced my Graphics card.

Also, at ex, yes I have, side panel off, turning the PC on with my head practically in the tower.
