Hey there, this might sound like a daft question but i'm only used to looking at my dads old rig, psu.

I've ordered this psu for my new rig: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CA-192-CM

I'm wondering, how many times can a single molex connector be split, using the cables which make 2 from 1 and such?

Is there a limit to how many times this can be done before the psu would kill itself? (i've never had to do this before as my current pc was shop built).

Thanks for the help!

I would say with that PSU you would run out of places to put things which need a molex long, long before they would overload that monster..........;):D

As far as I am aware as long as the psu can supply enough power for everything attached to a molex then its it is fine. This is as far as I know so correct me if I am wrong but I have not had problems connecting quite a lot to one molex. At the moment, as only one molex plug got close enough I have 2 230mm fans, 120mm fan, dvd drive and my fan controller (with another 4 x 120mm fans attached) without any problems.

On a side note though, most psu's these days come with multiple molex connectors so if you actually used them all then on an average PC probably only talking of one or two things connected to each one.

The molex connectors themselves are good upto 7A, which is a LOT of fans etc.
The wiring would be more suspect depending on the gauge and load handling.

The multiplugs would overload before the main harness wiring, which should be of sufficient gauge to power the plugs upto 7A.

The wires will get hot if overloaded. You can test it by touch. I advise your lips. More sensitive than your fingers.

Thanks for the feedback guys, that's good to know ;) I wasn't too sure, and didn't want to go frying my psu when i switched it on :P
