Is it possible to buy an item at a highstreet store, use it and return it for a full refund within 30 days?

Particular store I am looking at

If you change your mind, just return it unused, in its original condition with your receipt to any *competitor* store within 30 days

Does this mean if its an electrical item it cannot be turned on? I need an amplifier as mine is currently being repaired and its killing me being without music

Oh lawd, you want a free amp whilst you wait for yours to be repaired?

In a word. Yes

I have done it with phones at Apple and they have no problem with it so why not other stores with other items. Its not like i'm going to break it (and if I do then its my problem obviously)

Because it's a complete **** take. The returns policy is for a genuine change of mind, not some free of charge rental service.

It really depends on the retailer. Buyers rights are rigged against you these days. It used to be the other way around. If you bought a fridge freezer and it arrived DOA, the retailer can chose to have it repaired and sent back to you. In your case, the retailer will probably tell you to do one.

See if they will throw in a free holiday too.

Go into Apple shop "I am waiting for my return handset to arrive from insurance, can I buy a phone and return it when it arrives" ... "yes, yes you can and a lot of people do it"

Don't see that as pretend land

:D

FrankieOnPC allegedly got moaned at by the rainforest because he told all his scrubsbibersers that if they want a new mouse, they just order a load from them and then just keep the one they want.

Scrounger :)

Hardly. I'm waiting for me £500 amp to come back from repair that was due back tomorrow but is now delayed until Monday. Need something to play music (out speakers) over the weekend and dont really see the point paying ~£200 when I get mine back 2 days later

Can you even hire stuff like amps / speakers?

If you're willing to go to all that trouble for the sake of having it for 2 days you should probably find a hobby to better occupy your time.

Get yourself a pair of headphones for a tenner and spare yourself and the poor guy working at the store you're considering scamming the hassle of a refund
