Hi there,

First off thanks for reading. I got a Sapphire 2gb 5970 just over a year ago from overclockers. Has done me well and I have been extremely satisfied with it, except from the driver issues that ATI seem to be plagued with but thats another story.

Lately the fan started housing what sounds like a small dirtbike racing ring and the sound of bikes revving up and consequently heating the GPU to insane heats led me to return the card to OC for an RMA.

Now the kind chaps have tested the card and have confirmed the presence of illegal dirtbike racers within my fan and have sent it back to supplier to eradicate these racers. Or repair or replace. I called up today to see what is going to happen and they informed me of the situation stating that in an ideal world it would take around 28 days, more than this then they will chase up the suppliers.

Just wondering what your experiences with similar situations are, as without my pc for a month severely hinders my ability to work as I work from home. Paying just under £500 for a card that I subsequently cannot use for what may be almost a month kinda sucks. And after christmas with 4 offspring I cannot justify buying a decent replacement to She who must not be named.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated, thanks guise.

Do you need a powerful card for your work? Or do you just need a card to get PC up and running so you can work and gaming can wait a month? If its latter then the best option is probably to buy a cheap card to tide you over til you get your main card back, alternatively you can buy the same card if you need this power and then sell it once you get yours RMAd, you prob wouldnt lose too much in a month, obv just be sure to keep the boxes etc

Presumably you don't have onboard graphics. If not pick up a cheap second hand card from the bay and make do without gaming. If you really can't do without gaming pick up a 5850/GTX460 and as above, you shouldn't take a big loss on either of them.

3-4 weeks seems standard with most manufacturers. I RMA'd a HIS HD4870 as the bearings had gone in the fan, took exactly 4 weeks. I had to borrow a mate's old card to get me through.
