Always wondered about temps in general. I know there are not many straight answers as people are using different components, different cooling, different overclocks. Also manufacturers are not always forth coming with max safe temps as they don't always want you to be ocing.

However, having had 1 mobo/cpu die due to heat I would like to see what I can find out about temps for this build as well as any general rules of thumb

specs as follows

---------------------------------------------

Intel Core i7 920 D0 Stepping @ 4.00GHz Max
Gigabyte EX58-UD5 Intel X58 Motherboard
Patriot Viper 6GB DDR3 PC3-12800C8 1600MHz DDR3

BFG 8800gtx 768mb
500gb segate 7200rpm
2 x 250gb segate 7200rpm
akasa powermax 850 watt
Antec 1200 Twelve Hundred

---------------------------------------------

First note, these temps are with all case fans (6) and my gpu fan on max. Also on a hot day but with windows open (temps only vary by about 3c due to hot/ cold day I find

Temps

Idol

GPU
59c

Mobo
39 - 40 - 48 (I believe these are all mobo temps, 48 being the north bridge)

cpu
50c (hottest core)

Load (gaming, cod4, coh, gta4, fallout 3, dead space etc, not a stress test app)

GPU
90c (

Mobo
45c - 50c - 55c (55 being the north bridge)

cpu
69c (hottest core, has never hit 70 n is normally around 65)

Any thoughts?

Cheers

8800gtx always did run hot, check it for dust though.

Under 90 seems to be considered reasonable for i7 processors. The temperature measurement in the bios should be under 70 degrees, the gigabyte utility reports this temp. So under 70 according to gigabyte software, under 90 according to realtemp et al.

Id rather have a motherboard under 50, but anything under 60 is probably ok. Hard drives should be under 50.

This refers to proper load temps, i.e. not while gaming.

holy ****, my gfx is running at 67c when idle! everything is quite cool though. do you think i should apply more paste? sorry to seem as if i an hijacking!
