My birthday is coming up so I will have some money to spend. I am looking to upgrade my computer.

Specs:
i5 3570k w/ stock cooler
8GB ram
MSI 7950
500GB HDD
Seasonic GS 550W
Gigabyte Z77-D3H

I am guessing that the obvious one is getting an SSD, but any other suggestions.

Also are there any suggestions to make my computer quite, seeing as it is rather noisey atm.

For the price you can't go wrong with the Crucial, slightly slower write speeds than the Samsung but unless your constantly benchmarking you won't notice any real differences.

Thanks, do you know whether the CPU cooler will be able to fit into my computer, seeing as the RAM I have is quite wide.

Almost all computer noise comes from fans and HDD's.

A closed loop water cooler is a great idea, if it works in your case - they're very efficient (not very noisy at all in my experience) and the fact you can mount it in the place of a couple of case fans means you can reduce the total number of fans.

What fans are you using? Are they at full power or on a fan controller? If the former, a fan controller at £20 or so would be a good shout, allowing your noise to match the load. An aftermarket GPU cooler could be a good plan too, if yours is loud. Combined with a Water Cooler (eg the Corsair ones) they can be very helpful.

An SSD is definitely a good plan, HDD's are fairly noisy in my experience. Less of a constant drone than fans, but more intermittent noise which I find far more annoying.

I am using 2 fans that came with my bitfenix case and and the Phanteks 120mm
Also how easy is it to install an aftermarket GPU cooler and any suggestions on one? (my gpu is the MSI Radeon 7950)

The GPU cooler isn't easy, although it's not the hardest thing ever either - it depends on your confidence to mess about with your kit. Don't bother if your GPU is under warranty or you can't afford to replace it if it does happen to break (unlikely unless you rush)

The Bitfenix fans aren't the quietest, I've no idea about the Phanteks, but I'd suggest upgrading the Bitfenix ones to a pair of Corsair AF120 and getting a fan controller - total cost about £40

Those, plus a CPU cooler and swap your HDD for an SSD and you should get a fairly noticeable drop in noise output

I will most likely keep my HDD as a back up, so hopefully I will see a large drop by removing the bitfenix fans and swapping out the cpu cooler.

You defo need an SSD - they're epic.

Noise probably comes from GPU... is it loud when idle, or just when gaming?

It doesn't make sense to run a 3570K at stock - if you're going to get a CPU cooler learn how to overclock that too.

It is loud when idle and when gaming and I do plan on getting a cpu cooler and eventually I will overclock.
