Any opinions on having unused usb 3 cables connected to your rear usb 3 ports and not using them when installing OS or taking system images etc?

I had 2 usb3 cables plugged into the rear ports on my pc and fed them over to the front of the case and held in place by some tape and then used as and when needed.

Everything fine for ages but I had a failure when I tried to re-image the system to a new drive recently when re-imaging from the exact same set up before had no problems at all so having these usb 3 cables plugged into the rear ports are where I've settled on being the reason why but I am open to hearing as many other opinions as I can on the subject.

The re-image failed from 2 drives, one was stored on a WD Elements external and the other on a WD Green internal and tried to image to a San Disk Ultra II SSD

Are the cables coming from a motherboard usb port or a PCI-E add-in card? And whats the motherboard/add-in card model number?

I did a re-image from the external to the same system just before x-mas and all went well.

Tried the same thing a few days ago and the process stuck at about 10/15%.

Both times to a Sand Disk Ultra II 480GB SSD,the first one was a re-image from an install on the 3rd of Dec which was because the SSD failed.
That re-image also failed a week later and the second,attempted,re-image was then to the replacement SSD.

I just learned the,

wbadmin get versions

cli and running it tells me I have two version that can restore from bare metal and system state so I guess that's the verification I need that the new images I've taken are good.
