Hey All

Been trying to play Generals and Zero Hour online last few days and am always getting high pings, so high that the game wont let me play online due to it. I would have thought that my PC/firewall would be the issue but my friend in a completely different location is getting the same. Basically all games in the lobby have the red "high ping" dot next to them and whenever I create, or my friend creates a game we are unable to start it due to this as well.

All other online games (including AoEII if you had seen my Voobly post a few days ago) work fine. He is running XP and I am running Win7 64bit.

If it is the game itself, is there another way we can connect together? Such as something like Voobly, but for generals?

Thanks

mine is still fine so cant be the game.

only thing i can remember when installing it recently it wouldnt go into a game without choosing a firewall port in the options and then making it open on the router.

win7 64bit here aswell.

Are you both running the same version/patch as it sounds like what used to happen when one person was running different versions or not the latest patch.
HTH

Both running the same version and patch, we basically let the game update itself for us on clean installs.

Xiler, are you on about port forwarding? I remember when I first got generals, I never port forwarded anything and it worked fine for years, that to be fair was a few years ago though.

yeah dunno if its because I have a different router and ISP from before, but had to do it this time.

Hamachi lets you create a "virtual lan" online and play any game via lan over the internet instead of using the normal online service.

Me and my friends used hamachi when we played generals.

Depending on how Hamachi is setup, it might not be an option whilst I am still in uni.

I might check out GameRanger tonight. It is annoying how a lot of older titles require 3rd party applications to work now. :(
