Generic batteries - any experiences?

The official Acer batteries for my ZG5 are, simply put, ****ing expensive.

I suspect the 3 cell battery in the AOA-150-Ab I've bought is dead on account of being 3 years old (though not much use)

I can get a 9-cell battery for £28, guessing it'll be tat? Could do with any experiences anyone's had since most people dismiss them as much without using them. For a start, we don't really know what's in the Acer official battery.

Was thinking of getting a genuine 3-cell battery and a generic 9-cell. Have found a 3-cell listing that's used but guaranteed to last at least 75% of design life and is genuine @ £14.99 which is decent imo.

Cheers

I've had several cheap batteries of eBay, and while they don't last much longer than 1-2 years, they've been fine.

Saying that, I do use a full charge every day so a good 300 cycles a year!

I wouldnt buy a 2nd hand battery.

I usually reccomend genuine but I havent had any bad experiences with generic batteries, they are usually good quality, I cant say the same for chargers though, always use a genuine charger.

I'm rather lucky, updated the BIOS and did the battery fix trick and it still has a good 2 hours life in, though this is without a screen atm :p not bad for a 3 year old 3 cell battery if you ask me.

As well as that, I bought one which was "dead", got it working the same way, 1.25hrs life! I know it doesn't add up to a lot when it comes up to netbooks but that's more than my older laptops have ever given out :p

Update BIOS to 3309, take out battery and boot off charger, plug battery in, leave for a while, shutdown. Take charger out and try boot off battery is what worked for me.

Only seems to be on AA1s though, addressed in BIOS version 3117 or something like that. I expected my battery to be completely dead, being nearly 3 years of age (though it's had not much use).
