Yo guys, I've got an old generic multi card reader. It worked fine until I got vista 64 bit. The OS can't find drivers for it. It just has multiple instances of "generic volume" in device manager. Anyone know where to get 64bit usb card reader drivers?

Thanks in advance. :D

Haha, how about anything constructive? lol. Seriously though, I really am at the end of my tether with this internal usb card reader.

Have you any idea who made it? It can be a problem getting 64-bit drivers but for something like this there may be something generic out there. USB devices report themselves to the OS and refuse to install drivers unless the information in the INF matches the device name - can therefore be a pain getting generic drivers to work - but not impossible. I had to do something similar with a USB>Serial converter (got it to install the drivers but it didn't work very well).

I have no idea mate. Any idea where I can get some generic drivers then? It worked fine with Vista 32 bit. 64 bit just aint liking it though :(

Vista64 found all the necessary drivers for my generic USB card reader without any problems.

Was the reader connected while you were installing Vista? If it was Vista may just have got confused and applied the wrong drivers.

Try removing all traces of it from device manager and then reboot. If you're lucky it should redetect the reader and install the correct drivers.

If that doesn't work could you swap the reader onto different motherboard header/USB port? This would cause the reader to be installed as a fresh device.

If all else fails you can get an internal card reader that will work with Vista64 for about £10 (Enlight 26-in-1).

Yeah it was connected whilst doing the install of vista. I've tried removing it from device manager, but on a restart it just does the same again. Might have to buy a new one then.
