I've got a problem with my iPhone 4 which I suspect they will swap for a new one. However, all of the genius bar slots are taken until next Thurs Evening, but I would really like to go tomorrow as I wont be able to go midweek.

My question is, can you just walk in and see someone, or are they really that strict at making you go through booked appointments, or is that just to get a "guaranteed" seeing to

Thanks

You cant just walk in to see someone. There will be a lot of people have booked before you. Only way is to book online or via Apple Store App on a iphone.

You can try but they would only see you if there was an appointment slot available. As you've already checked and know there aren't your going to be SOL.

Bummer, also just put my serial number in to the apple support website and it says my tech support has expired, I guess its about 13 months old now.

Basically, the auto focus feature of the camera has randomly stopped working. The camera itself is fine, but it fails to zoom in when you need it to automatically, or by tapping the screen. Wanted a replacement handset!

you can get one for £139 any repair on ip4 is that much they just swap it for a refurb which is basically new

Few reports on iFixit that flicking the back of the phone near the camera lens several times might clear the stuck focus issue at least temporarily. Not sure I believe it but unlikely to do any harm unless you do something silly like drop the phone. :)

Aye i've seen them but to no avail for me. I've order a genuine apple camera replacement part and will have a go at swapping it myself. I've taken a few iPhones/iPods apart before, and now this is out of warranty then might aswell have a go.

All 3 iPhones I've owned have all encountered a hardware fault now. Reliability is not their forte

I've never been turned away - people will be late or no show. If you're happy to wait, just go and see them. What's the worst that can happen?

They tell you to go away and you've wasted a trip.

In my case, my nearest Genius Bar is over an hour away, so that would also be several hours wasted.

Nothing else to do near it? Like grab a coffee? Buy some new jeans? Perve on the local wo/men? It's only a waste if you make it one.

Since the iOS 5 update mine only appears to zoom by pinching the screen, a tap no longer brings it up. Have you tried pinching, if you're on iOS 5 now?

I have been in there before and mentioned a issue with my iPhone with a member of staff and he arranged for me to see a "genius" there and then, if your desperate maybe give it a try.
