Hey peeps,
Seeing as the typhoons are now discontinued and i'm looking for some fans for my new build is there anything that comes into their ballpark for static pressure & noise lvl?

I have been eyeing up the Noiseblocker B12-P fans for my rads. but one of the user reviews on ocuk said they can be noisy. anyone got any other recommendations?

cheers:D

These all seem to be good rad fans from the specs. I know the enermax ones have had a fair few recommendations recently, haven't seen anyone using the piranha or DS fans yet.

corsair sp's are very good at what they do.

and the DS fans look superb and on paper look technically good too.

Piranhas would be good due to their high static pressure. Theyre loud at full speed though. Another alternative is the corsair sp series.

Was using 3 Apache on a 360 rad and moved to 3 piranha.

Difficult to say wether better/worse as I' m running PWM but no complaints. Does appear that they run a bit slower/quieter to give the same temps.

Have not noticed any increase in noise levels when pushing - I did making the same switch on a corsair h60.(the piranha got too noisy , so switched back to the apaches.

Unfortunately I think what is an acceptable 'noise' level is so subjective ( and depends on case, clocks, case fans ....) it is damn near impossible to say which will suit any individual.

Overall I likfe the Akasa Apache /piranha range - good product and not too expensive.

Ive used both the piranhas and the black and yellow vipers. They both have the same max speed, but the piranha has better static pressure. Yet to try the apaches though.

I have had all below fans

Rating them 1-10 for noise and airflow, 10 being the best, all on max and used with rads

GT 1850's n10/af10
Piranha's 4/10
Apache's 7/7
Vipers 6/5
Noiseblocker 12-3, 8/6
Corsair SP 1350 10/5
Nzxt enthusiast 3/9
Spectre pro's 7/2

The Apaches look like they're just a different colour scheme and a lower max RPM.
Yep, much lower iirc its 1300 rpm. The viper/piranha are 1900 rpm. I tried them both but not on the rig in sig, (old x58 i7). On a TRUE cooler the piranha cooled 4c better than the viper, both at max speed. The piranha has a quite different blade design. Airflow through what is a very densely finned cooler felt much stronger with it.

How is that possible? Link please.

I think it's on their official website.

FAQ from their website:

When I install the fan "sucking" on a CPU cooler or a radiator it gets louder, why?

This is due to aerodynamics, simply increase the distance between fan and cooler to about 5-10 mm, e.g. using a distance frame (normal PC accessoires) and the noise will disappear. We suggest an inflating assembly, which is what the fan is optimised for.

Reply to OP, I'm using Noiseblocker eLoops and I think they do really nice.

I tried SP120 myself before but they are not really my type of fan :) Maybe you can try them out

yeah, i have 10 of the eloops and i must say that they are silent in pull, a tiny bit of noise in push. i have the ones from phobya and i dont know if they have been modified but i didnt have to use any fan shrouds and am not getting and touching of the fan blades to the radiator at all (note i am using AC ST30 and UT60 360mm radiators). have used the SP series (both quiet and performance editions) and i have to say i vastly prefer these!

Couger or something like that was meant to be on par with Scythe's. But honestly if you're looking for a substitute just get some of that plastic spray and paint it a different colour. :D

Substitute? wouldn't know I picked up some GT1850's off the MM cheap, pretty much going to buy any I see in good condition for the future too
