Gentle Typhoons - Starting current

Hi,

I just bought 4 Gentle Typhoons (are they really any good? the centre bit where the air dead spot will be is massive!!) and I noticed on the back it says the current is 0.083A, but the starting current is 0.36A.

Now this looks like it could be an issue as I was hoping to run all 4 on a fan controller using just 1 channel (all 4 will be going on my radiators so I was hoping to control them all at the same time). But the fan controller will only do 1A per channel.
Now this should run all 4 fine as 0.083 x 4 = 0.332A.
However will it be able to start them as 0.36 x 4 = 1.44A

Will this work? (i.e. will 2 manage to start, then once started drop to the lower current allowing the other 2 to start)

Do I have to get something like this (or this) if I want to run them on a single channel?

Thanks.

The starting current would only be a momentary thing, almost like an inrush current. Usually in a fan controller the reason they are rated at some figure or another is down to cooling or rating of the regulator transistor. In most cases transistors will cope with a high current for a short time without damage.

Like with any motor a fan will take some power to overcome inertia and begin to turn. Once the fan has gone beyond that point it'll settle down to it's normalt operating current very quickly.

I think you'll be just fine with the 1 Ampere controller.
