Having problems with a windows installation and was recommend to boot with this to see if its a hardware problem or not, it doesnt seem to be, and i dont want to lose the data on the hdd.
How do you boot this into a working OS without installing it over windows. I was told it was possible?
I have the cd and looked, but i get a lot of commands i dont understand!

Thanks

You'll probably find it much easier if you boot from a live os that has a gui, such as knoppix. The os will run in memory so should have no effect on your windows install, but you should be able to easily see what's on the hard-drives if that's what you wanted :)

What sort of problem are you having with Windows? Do you want to boot an os so that you can use it to copy data onto a usb stick, or cd?

I was informed gentoo Live CD does this. I just dont know how to do it.

Having the first problem i havent been able to fix, ever :D
Computer boots, loads all drivers, (even safe mode shows this then reboots) Thinking its some sort of driver problem, i thought ram, so bought some more, and its not.
Powermax says hdd is fine, and Memtest86 says ram is fine.
It ran both tests fully no problem. Motherboard codes say fine. Power supply is new, as the old one has cause this when it blew up.
tried to reinstall new windows over the old, but for some reason when it loads all drivers and say "loading windows" just before it goes to the option to reinstall it reboots.

I want to see if gentoo will work so i know its not hardware, then i will buy a new hdd and install on that . I just dont want to format and lose all my photos and such.

Just put the gentoo cd in a let it boot up and you should be fine :) (It won't try to install itself unless you specifically choose this option - it runs in memory).

OK cool, i was testing it on a different computer and i was afraid if i pressed to much i could end up with an install.

To be honest, given my experiences with the current Gentoo LiveCD, you can push a whole load of the right buttons and still not get a working install.

I went back to my 1.4 release command only LiveCD in the end and did it the old fashioned way!
