Took my car for its MOT retest today obviously back to where it originally failed.

It failed on...

Emissions
Couple of blown bulbs
Rubber on brake pedal worn down

Ok no problems, so I sorted the emissions by borrowing a CAT off an MG guy via a forum, replaced the bulbs - the brake pedal rubber they said they would order it in for me. Awesome

Took the car there with the CAT fitted and bulbs replaced to have the following conversation

Me - Hi, here for a retest, done everything just need you guys to fit the brake pedal rubber
Him - what brake pedal rubber

Here we go....long and short of it, they didn't have it, nor did they stock them, nor could they get them...joys. I then had the following conversation

Me - Well where does that leave us?
Him - Well we can get one for a Rover 600...
Me - Will it fit?
Him - We don't know, oh and its double the price
Me - you don't know if it'll fit?
Him - Well we can make it fit, with glue or something

:rolleyes::rolleyes:

This is Time Tee Cars, a well established long running MG place in Upminster, Essex. They explained during the original MOT they strictly do everything by the book etc...now they are talking of bodging a BRAKE pedal?!

I asked if I sourced one (which would take about a week or so) could I still get the restest free? - answer...no...due to VOSA rules. Gave them a rolleyes and took it elsewhere and it passed straight away. Now I know we all have different levels of 'that'll do' but bodging a brake pedal?!

Real bad luck those bulbs blowing in the time between your 30 second pre MOT glance around and getting it to the test centre dude :(

I knew they were blown, I thinking it being an MG garage they would replace them :p

Why is replacing a bulb beyond your skillset :p

Its not, but I assumed it being an MG garage they would just replace them, I even pointed it out to them when I took it for its MOT :p

Which bulbs?

A sidelight and main beam. They blew because when I took the headlights off the car during the work we did I took the bulbs out in a wild idea to open the headlights up and detango them :p

When we put it all back together and the car was running. Came to night, turned my lights on....oh dear, 2 of them don't work :D

How long had you been driving around with defective lights then?

a whooping 16 hours. Total driving done was 20mins home :p

Then succumbed to using the van until I could get the bulbs :(

Any petrol station sells bulbs, you didnt need to put the car off the road :p

Most places wanted £17 for just headlight bulbs!

I went to a local place which is run by a friend...2 x new sidelights and 2 x new headlight bulbs - £9.25

Bodging things is true Rover/MG styleee, what is up with you.:p

This I agree with on non essential things, like suspension etc. But when it comes to bodging my ability to stop and a very essential pedal then I get a bit touchy :p

What about those people with metal aftermarket pedals then, would they fail an MOT?

lol gawd knows. But these are for RAPID RUUDE RIDES INNIT carz only err blud?

For example, my brothers Focus 1.6....who, and I quote, warned me when I drove it to make sure it doesn't 'catch me out' - Bless him :p

So what happens to emission when you give the CAT back to who you borrowed it from?

It gets it's decat pipe back on...like it did today. Sounds better now :D

EDIT: Anyone ever started their car up without an exhaust attached?! SWEET JESUS :D:D
