Hi guys,

I've hit a wall with geometry wars. I can get from 150,000-200,000 every time now and my best is about 235,000 but I'm just not getting any better at it! Has anyone got any good tricks or strategies to make the jump to the next level?

I'm on 1.6 million atm and I never really know how I've got there. I'd say shoot forward as much as possible always follow your bullets.

Is there a particular enemy you can't seem to beat?
 
Just keep trying and try to save your bombs would be my advice...

Also if you don't blow up the dark hole things (the things with the orange/red circles) but just shoot them once then some enemies will get sucked into it and then you can blow it up for more points.
 
Im just short of 300K and like you starscream i've hit a bit of a brick wall as well. I think you just need superhuman reactions to get the highscores and think you really do need to get most of your scoring done on your first life while your multiplier is high. When you die your multiplier is reset and its becomes quite difficult to score highly again with the amount that is going on at the later stages.
 
The ones I really struggle on are the red ones with the shields and the tiny blue ones that come from the corners at around 150k.

Are you guys tending to stay round the middle or the edges?

I think Melchy is right about the multiplyer thing. I always get about 75% of my final score of the first life when the multiplyer is high!

My highest score is 704,000, though it didn't save to the leaderboards for some reason. On the leaderboards, i've got 640,000.

I seem to be able to score 4-500K consistently. With this game you do keep improving. I remember when 250K was a novilty. Now i normally score that on one life.

The best techniques seem to be:
Shoot a path for your ship. Don't shoot straight, but shoot in an arc, so you cover a wider area.
Use bombs to preserve you multiplier when you get 5x or above.
 
Cheers for your suggestions! I'm now up to 487k but am getting over 300k every time which is a big improvement. I think the the best tip here is to shoot ahead of you to clear a path, then when your paths clear and everythings chasing you, fire behind while going round in big circles!

The ships that really trouble me are the tiny little bluey/purple ones that millions start coming out of the corners round about 200k. Anyone got any tips for these? I can't seem to clear even 1 corner blasting continiously at them, so I'm having to use my smart bombs but after they run out I'm in trouble!!
 
go around the edges shooting at them at an angle to cut a big enough path through them then skank on through before the gap closes back up. they are my biggest problem in the game as I always miss just one of them Really annoys me! but that seems to be the best tactic. Its worse when there are loads of other enemies at the same time, really gets difficult then :( gl add me if you want wingzero124
 
Got over 250,000 tonight which is my highest so far... not bad considering my previous best was only 156,000 (got 3 games over my previous high score in a row)
 
Is it better to shoot the red circles as soon as you see them, or let them suck up some enemies first?

It depends. I think the scores are the same either way (you get the points of absorbed enemies), but they're sometimes useful when you being chased by a ton of enemies. Shoot one to activate it, and it will slow them down. Once the black hole explodes, the blue circles are pretty easy.

The problems start when you let too many active ones on the screen. It gets chaotic pretty quickly when one explodes, gets sucked into another, and that explodes etcetera.
