Hey,

I bought a Sapphire HD 7950 OC 3072MB PCI-Express Graphics Card from OC early 2012.

Looking at upgrading, Would i be better off buying another 7950 or should i just go for a better single card? Budget is around £400, Maybe £500 MAX only if i have too.

Depends, what games and resolution etc you play at?

I recently upgraded from a 22" 1680x1050 monitor to 24" 1080
And when playing elder scrolls online, my fps some times drops to less than 40 on ultra settings, rarely though, but even so, that was enough to make me just get a second 7950 which I have bought this morning and it is arriving tomorrow, so I will let you know how it goes,

but even still, paying 120 quid for a second card just because I get fps drops in one game, its silly :p my single 7950 is more than pleanty for every other game I play, but you know we do do these sort of things! if we want more power we want more.

But it depends on what games you play though, as my single 7950 is fine for battlefield 4, and every other game I play, its just eso that fps drops a bit.
I didn't want to fork out half a grand or a grand for the best, when adding another 7950 for 120 quid will give fps almost as good imo :)

What is the rest of your system bud?

There is some caveats for going CF and SLI and that is higher temps = more noise (fans working harder) Not all games have SLI/CF support and can take quite a long while to sort out (Rome Total war 2 for example). More power needed = more cost on the leccy bill and possibly needing a new PSU. Bottlenecks can happen if your CPU isn't up to the job.

Just a couple of againsts but other than that, CF/SLI is fantastic :)

Well i'm upgrading my whole system, So it will be a new i7 refresh CPU. I'm using a 27" 2560x1400 monitor.

Ill be getting a 1000w PSU so that should be ok.

I mainly play FPS games, BF4, titanfall, CSGO. Also some MMOs, like WoW/Wildstar.

I do get drops running at my resolution though, Would like something more constant.

Also i think heat might be an issue as my room gets pretty warm, So i'm not sure about CF, Thinking just getting a single 780ti would be better.

Get the best single GPU you can afford / what your system can handle.

At the £400-£500 range you are looking at 290/290x 780/ti and maybe even a 7990 dual gpu but for less hassle a good quality single GPU would be my choice. 290x or 780Ti from your given budget.

Is there much difference in the branding of the 780ti ? They are all really different in pricing. Inno3D is in the "this weeks offer" looks like a good price. They any good?

I have seen it being recommended to other users. The Gigabyte Windforce 3x is just £10 or so more .. that would probably be my choice

Off-topic but ESO does not run in full screen (!). For some reason it runs in windowed borderless mode - thus low cpu/gpu usage and no crossfire/sli support. I'm afraid your second 7950 won't do a thing until they add true fullscreen, which they are planning on adding soon they say.

I would get the cheapest 780ti you can get. I just bought 2 EVGA reference model 780's for SLI. I thought 780ti for me at least was way overkill and the 5 to 10% increase over 780 wasn't worth it. I saved £200.

That makes no sense. You thought a 780ti was overkill so went and got 2 x 780's which is way more overkill.

It makes sense to me. My 780's are nowhere near the overkill the 780ti's would be. also bought 2 so if I do sell one I have 1 left.., also he was talking about 2 780ti's not 1. dude please don't reply if you the on idea or didn't read the post right.

I read it like he was going to get either two 780s or two 780ti's.

I swear it must be stupid day today.

You're correct!!!!!. It must be stupid day today as I can't understand the "dude please don't reply if you the on idea" part.

7990 Is more powerful than a 290x but with that extra grunt comes extra heat as the 7990 is a dual gpu on a single board. Personally I would stump up for a 290x unless you are dead set on features like PhysX and G-Sync the 290x is a fantastic card but overall not worth the extra cost of the 290 pro/nonX.

The price of 350 for the 7990 I can't say much on as I recently saw OCuk selling them around that price give or take.
