get a 980 or just go sli with with another 780 ?

980 all the way. Sell the 780 while you can still get a decent price for it and put the money towards a galax 980 SOC. 780s in SLI are going to draw a lot of power, the 980 sips hardly anything and a single card is much better for new games which often have brokne or non-existent SLI profiles.

As above, GTX780's still sell for half decent money, give it a few more months and that won't be the case.

Personally I will always try and go for a single card setup, even if there is a price premium involved. Less hassle all round.

Im running 2 x GTX 780 @ 1200p and they perform fantastically on most new titles at max settings. Im waiting for GM200 cards in the new year, something with at least 8GB Vram to combat those dodgy ports

Sensible choice would be sli 970 as the 780 still has decent resale value.
I have being weighting up recently what I wanted and ended up selling my 780ti and went sli 980. Just don't think we getting anything new till late April from Nvidia. But that is just my speculation.
