I bought a motherboard from a reseller on eBay. They are unlikely to know the password as they won't have been the original/ previous owner.

The board has a password. It's not 0000 or nothing or 1234. I can't access the BIOS without the password.

I've tried clearing the CMOS on the jumpers on the board and also replaced the CMOS battery / left it without the battery for a bit.

Are there any other ways to overcome it? It's a gigabyte H81M-DS2V. It has the dual bios thing does anyone know how I force the back-up bios to load or anything?

If not I'll be refunding the board but I would like it to work without needing to do that ideally :(

Edit so it doesn't have the back-up bios annoyingly

That should have worked, ensuring that power been removed first, try turning the pc on to remove any power still in the board and then using clear cmos jumper for a few seconds.
