I've been using WinAVI Video Converter v6.3 the older version and have been encoding 700MB xVid AVI files in 6 mins with excellent quality.

Takes about an hour on my 1.86ghz E6300, but thats with DDR ram.

I've alway's used WinAVI seems to be the quickest pick of the bunch. Takes about 6 mins to encode a 700MB Xvid AVI file to VOBs and then 4 mins to burn to DVD using Nero at 16x Speed DVDs.
