Been in a bit of a lull for last few years and havent been able to find interest in really playing any games.

I bought an Xbox One last year and have about 80 games in my "list" but mostly cheapos and freebies.
I did get GOW4 and FF15, GOW seems good if I can get myself in to it, but FF15 seems as though they have runied the fighting system, again didn't really play it much.
My PC is probably a little outdated now for any serious gaming (not 100% sure on this)
I5 2500K @ 4.2, 16Gb ram, GTX 680, some sort of samsung SSD,

In the past I have enjoyed C&C in various guises, played Civ rev quite a bit on 360, had plenty of fun on COD4, and Modern Warfare 2, then it all became a bit too arcady after that really, COD3 was really good.
FF7, 8 and 10 were excellent, and another one I played on 360, might have been 12.

haven't PC gamed for a Looooooong time now, last time I spent any serious time on PC gaming was the first iteration of Counter-strike (and I sucked at it)

Give me some titles (xbox or PC) that I could pick up, I am running Windows 7 still so Xbox play anywhere won't apply to be until I decide to jump to W10

might be worth mentioning I don't have huge amounts of time to sink in to gaming as I do have 2 young daughters :)

They Are Billions might suit, if you like strategy and need something that won't stress your system.

looks more like a tower defense type game from the demo video than a strategy ?
or is it just a poor video.

His system really isn't that underpowered. An i5 @ 4.2ghz will handle everything with ease, 16GB of RAM is plenty and a 680 whilst not amazing will still run virtually all modern games at 1080p with okay settings.

That is re-asurring, I can weigh up if I can get back in to gaming again without spending any money.
I'll have a word with my mate, I *may* be able to aquire an SLI capable mobo and a 2nd 680 for no money, but the question is do games still benefit from SLI, read a bit recently that suggests SLI was not what it once was.

I have an XFX 750 (or 850w) PSU so that should handle 2 cards ok :)

I have been and bought

They are Billions
Civ 6 (looks complicated and scary) :(
Witcher 3
Dirt Rally (I know its old but it was £9)
Tom Clancy's: The Division
Redout (used to love wipeout back in the day and I am hoping this is similar)

Games I already have
Metro Last light (played about an hour or so, not really enjoying it to be honest)
Crisis 3 (played a bit on Xbox 360, not played PC version), was ok on xbox
Tomb Raider (not sure which one, my mate gave it to me)
Half Life 2, bought just to play CS

There are a couple of others I found installed on my PC that I had forgotten about but I'm not at home at the min so not sure exactly what I have

Haven't we all ;)

Not like CS:GO ?
don't think i've tried it, but if any of the previous CS games are anything to go by, I simply won't have enough time to sink in to it to get any fun out of it.

The learning curve is extremely steep, it took me absolutely ages on CS to get to a stage where I would be considered below average (as a pose to completely terrible).
And I played that game for like 4 - 6 hours a day for months.

so far I've put a couple of hours into redout, its a bloody tough game. maybe there is a bit of grind involved to get your mods levelled up perhaps ?
It plays smooth as butter, but I think I need a bigger screen.

I had 1080p BENQ 24" dual monitors until about 2 years ago, I finally had enough of the atrocious banding on the screen and upgraded to a couple of 22" Dell IPS monitors, much better for working on, but not so good for gaming with such a small screen.

I have my eye on the 32" HP Omen at the min, just gonna wait a little while to see if I actually stick to the gaming though.
Oh and I managed to get the SLI Motherboard and 2nd GTX680 off my mate, so I have increased my horsepower a little as well.
I had a very quick play on the division with dual monitors and thought, this really needs 3 monitors, so put it back to 1.
Redout was pretty much unplayable on 2 as the nose of your ship sits direct centre.

but as I understand it Nvidia doesn't support native mixed resolutions so I would be stuck with a 3rd party app stretching a window over 3 monitors I believe.
