Get ONE 2gb chip?

I've noticed that it's so hard to get 2gb RAM chips, I want to have 2gb in one slot so I can always add chips in the future, but everything comes in chips, and I don't want to spend over £160 one 2 x 2gb!

Two 1gb sticks are better than one 2gb stick. You gain dual-channel with a pair.

Yes, and 4 RAM slots is pretty much standard now, so you'll still have room for expansion later.

I run a microATX (smaller board) and I still have 4 slots!

Thanks, but what about if you wanted to install 2 x 2gb instead of 4 x 1gb, the price difference is enormous!

2GB sticks are a premium at the moment, but by the time you'll want/need more than 4GB total, 2GB sticks will be a lot cheaper and by then you'll prolly need a new motherboard and all new memory anyway (DDR3 or 4 by then)
