I have a PC that windows needs activating on, although it was left soo long it now won't let me log in at all, can't do it on startup as there are no network drivers installed so i can't do it over the net.

Is there a way to by pass this at all so I can install the drivers, then activate windows over the net ?

If you can boot into safe mode with command prompt, then you can just type c:\windows\explorer.exe to get back into windows and sort your network out.

That's if it loads your network in command prompt mode, I'm not sure.

Haha I like that, people always find little ways to get around things. :D

You should be able to type c:\windows\explorer.exe in Internet Explorer to bring the desktop back up as well.
LOL! Deja vu right there!

On a side note, certain programs cannot be opened while Windows is still not activated. You will also not have a Task Bar at the bottom of your screen, as trying to open it will just result in it shutting itself down a few moments later. MSN Messenger works though, as well as most other non-Windows-based components.

The comments on the article confirm the use of explorer.exe in safe mode as a bypass aswell.

Clever idea, never would have thought of it^^

mmmm his forgetting windows xp doesn't always activate over the internet...

im disabled also can't talk and can't use my hands and can't walk but theres always ways round things...

I think I tried safe mode once, and it wouldnt let me.
Although Im sure that I can try again, also the moment it loads ip it asks me to activate, i can't get to desktop, let alone a command prompt to type anything in.
Coz when i click no, it logs me off ........................ can't be asked to phone them.

You've been at least 17 hours without your computer and you can't be arsed with a 5 min phone call?

Far too busy working to make even a 5 minute phone call, i got plenty of other machines to look at.

I dn't even know there number anyway, never had to ring them

There was me thinking that safe mode would not by pass the activation, I was soo wrong, good job someone told me to do what I wasnt going to do as it didnt work.

My bad

So to confirm

Throwing it into safe mode does by pass the activation, and now all i working well

Thanks for the gentle reminder
