Hi guys,

Well I have used both Leapoard and Bootcamp Windows xp for a couple of weeks...got all I needed from Windows on Leapoard now (except msn webcam support).....

So as I have the 80gb HDD for my macbook (new santa rosa one)... I wouldn't mind scrapping windows now, and getting my 30gb partition back onto my Mac OS..

How is this done?

open up the bootcamp assistant and follow the instructions to create a new install on there. resize the partition until there's none left

nope, I should imagine that Bootcamp uses something like gparted to resize your OSX partition. it will obviously destroy everything on your windows one, but it's just a reversal of the installation process - you shrink the OSX partition in that

for the things that windows is better at, you could always stick on VMware... my xp image only takes up 3.2 gig and the interaction between os x and xp is absolutely superb with VMware ;)

(the only reason i'm saying that is that you're concerned with the 30gig, with VM you set a maximum but it only uses what it needs...)

grab a copy of iWork - Pages and Numbers are lovely to use - I can't believe it can actually be nice making spreadsheets!!

Numbers makes it sooooo easy to do good spreadsheets i always wondered why they made excel so un-user friendly.

Better? Not a chance! Used it a few times and I can tell you Office 2007 is leaps and bounds more advanced and packed with a lot more features, what was the last office package you used?

Try openoffice http://porting.openoffice.org/mac/download/index.html I haven’t used it on Mac yet so can’t comment on the experience but it’s got a good following.

Office 2007 isnt on mac yet IIRC...;):p

Also Neooffice is just openoffice but with mac extensions built in like email and iphoto etc...

++ Seconded...

Numbers is fantastic! Its not as technically advanced as excel, by which I mean it lacks certain functions, ie pivot tables, macros etc.. but its absolutely cracking for everything else!

You *should* have a trial of '08 on in your applications folder..

diff'rent strokes and all that, but I quite like 2004 for mac and really couldn't get on with NeoOffice and I have to use OpenOffice at work (which I hate). I would say:

iWork > MS 2004 > Neo > Open

I'm quite excited to see what the new MS will be like. well, as excited as one can be about an office suite
