My girlfriend doesn't want Windows 10 for some reason. She accidentally downloaded it once and now has the pop up come up every day saying that it will install in one hour and it counts down.

I have tried to cancel the reservation several times but it still comes back. Is there a way to get rid of the download or just get rid of this message? (Without getting Windows 10).

I have tried running Disk Cleanup but it cannot find the downloaded file. I do not want to just stop automatic updates. She has Windows 8 at the moment.

I know Windows 10 would be an improvement and much easier but she doesn't want it.

Thanks.

the folder where it stores the downloaded iso is called C:\$windows.~BT, stored on the root of the C drive and hidden.

remove this or rename the folder and see if it stops it

Are you sure it isn't 8.1 since windows 8 doesn't qualify for the free upgrade to windows 10.

If you have made a mistake and it is 8.1 then it is possible that if you reinstate the reservation you might be able to find the upgrade to windows 10 listed in the optional updates section and it should just be a matter of just unchecking it, hiding the update, killing the reservation, removing the two main updates and then clearing out the folder using disc cleanup (you need to click the button with the UAC style shield on it to do the second scan which will allow you to remove the upgrade download files) and hopefully it should stop offering it and no longer download the upgrade.

Thank you. I'll try that tonight.
