Get Sandy or wait for Ivy?

6Ghz ... Yes on a custom chilled water cooling or phase change.. Don't expect that on air or an all in one water cooler like the corsair ones.

4 months wait is a long time....

There are msi z68 mobos with pci express 3.0 already and well priced too.

Its nice to wait if you got a powerful system mind... if its an old system then it maybe worth leaping onto 2500k/Z68 kit or a 2700k/Z68 kit if you just wanna last it a few years like...

There will be K versions available when they go on sale.

Right I didn’t know that. Hope the price is right then for the people that are waiting for them, with Amd not doing so well at the moment you don’t want Intel taking advantage by raising their prices.

I doubt the performance will be that much better. The 2500k is quick. If you get a z68 gen 3 board and the IB chip proves loads better then you won't be stuck...

BUt really your six core shouldn't be holding you back. Just yet. So I'd wait just to get newer stuff. But as others have said it won't be much difference

Maybe worth looking at how to get most out of your ssd

Same here will be waiting a few month see what new boards come out, including graphics etc. best bet I'd say, unless you need/want it now then go for it and go for Sandy, and when need add/upgrade. If this is what you want we'll always spec you a rig and parts :)

Will the new chipsets (Z77 or something) offer any performance benefits over Z68?

Also, what's the benefit of having native USB3? (which I assume the Z77 does have and the Z68 does not).

Im on the verge of upgrading to a new I5 sandy system (Current setup in sig) im just wondering how much the I5 sandys may come down in price when ivy comes in April? Im not a mad overclocker by any means so an I5 sandy OC to around 4.2-4.5ghz would be fine for me im not to fussed with ivy so just curious to if i should maybe wait just to save some cash?

If you can wait then wait! The prices will come down! But by how much, who can tell.

Buy now! There's always something faster round the corner, if you're unhappy with your current system upgrade today!!

Wise words spoken and totally agree. Intel will probably release their Ivy’s and straight after the rumors will start to spread about their next chip and people will wait again.
