Get the message?

can someone tell me how the message can possibly be "don't drive like a tool"?
VERY few people think they drive like a tool so they're hardly going to be able to modify their driving are they?
most people who have accidents that are primarily caused by excessive speed for the condition/situation thought they were driving at a perfectly safe speed....3 seconds before the laws of physics proved otherwise.

Bad driving was the cause. Speed then dictated the outcome. As it almost always does.

So...does it make sense to to have a road safety program that concentrates only on speed, or would it be better if bad driving was the no.1 priority?

You can still drive like a tit at 30mph and kill someone.

But you're not taught that in a driving lesson are you?

Driving "like a tit" comes through bad habits you learn, either from others, or from you own over-confidence.

Scort.

It concentrates on drink driving, motorbikes, etc, as well. The fact is, most accidents are caused by human error which is hard to alter. If someone misjudges a cars speed or has a tyre blowout or doesn't see a car coming the speed will dictate how bad the accident will be. How exactly do you prevent tyre blowouts or a persons ability to judge speed? Reducing speeds overall and in areas where accidents are likely is good as it will reduce the damage when accidents occur.

I totally agree though, that the government puts way too much emphasis on speed when there is plenty of opportunity to attack causes and other aspects of road safety. More traffic police would be better than speed cameras for example.

and unfortunately at many more times the cost of those very same cameras too.
like it or not a police force is run like any other business with budgets to be adhered to.

They've been playing this ad on TV flat out recently. The amount of road deaths in Ireland needs to drop, especially amongst young lads. It's a serious problem and the authorities are trying to have some impact with these ads but a lot more needs to be done.

Removing the stupid one year restriction to 45mph after passing the test and improving driver training would go a long way towards it IMO.

:o was half expecting another dead biker video, but was surprised and thought about time they picked on car drivers for speeding, but i agree with post above, keep damn dog on lead.

Why did the other two cars drive straight into each other?

This is a pretty good advert for ESP. Interesting to see what would have happened with a system like that in place.

the first video was powerful and really made me think, however when seeing how the car crash occurred the guy was a complete muppet to be overtaking at that point anyway :o

Crap advert, i've seen worse in films. If they want to get a message across properly they need to show real footage of what REALLY can happen, not some crap acting.

If they're going to show such graphic adverts trying to stop people speeding they should just show the real deal.

That would be a powerful advert. Other than that i'll probably forget about this advert as will most because i know it's not real. (not saying it doesn't happen though)

Can't agree more, 45mph on a motorway is nuts imo, I not once stuck to it as it is just unsafe. Currently I drive my brothers car, and he gets his R plates down this week or something, and in turn so do I, cause I never bother taking them down to drive, so now I no longer have to worry about being pulled over on the M5.

My instructor always agreed that 45mph under L and R plates is stupid and let me go up to the normal speed limit of the road, he was English so that might have been his problem I dunno, he was a great instructor though and I think he taught me and my brothers well as in 4 years of us driving not one has had any sort of knocks or bumps in a car.

Being a biker, I think I am also very observant on the road and this translates well to car driving.
