Does anyone know if you can get the Freecom DVB-T USB Stick working with other software?

I have seen the likes of PowerCinema and other DVB software and its seems so much better.

Has anyone managed to get their Freecom USB stick working with 3rd party software???

I would also like to know as I've got a Freecom DVB-T USB stick on the way and the main user complaints from online reviews seem to be the poor software.

Richard: I've been doing a lot of searching and managed to find this thread:

http://nolanparty.com/mediaportal.sourceforge.net/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=9891&highlight=freecom

Apparently Freecom are working on BDA drivers which would allow the use of the stick with other software.

However the thread also has a post from someone who says he found a way to get it working with the MediaPortal software.

Any chance you could give his method a try and report back if it is successful?

u get a better signal connecting to a portable tv arial and even that is a waste of time. only 2 jerky channels

I got 38 channels straight of the main house feed

Thanx for your reply mate.

Was gonna share this between my pc and laptop but thinking about it i might be better going the pci route and extending the aerial at home and using it on my pc only.

Do you have any problems running this off the usb or any other problems apart from the issue with the aerial?

Is the tv capture any good?

have not really messed with it much, the reason I got it was......................erm

oh yes I have no recording hardware in my house anymore, and the freecom was cheap and is mobile (I have 4 pcs in the house)

so it can be used with any of them, and if u have a wifi network u can stream it, and it looks very good too.

one thing u must be warned is to change the power/ performance profile if you are using a lappy to record stuff on as it could get choppy

The whole reason i want one is because of it's mobility and the fact that it will give me the chance to capture some old videos etc that i have been meaning to do for a long time. The laptop will only be used to view freeview (if i can get a good signal) and my pc for all the recording.

Will have a look at some reviews for other external digital tv cards and see how this one compares.

Ive just got one of these and works really well - with the suplied arial I can get all channels appart form ITV1,2,3 and 4.

Only prob is recording - after a bit it gets so choppy its like a slide show... If I dont record then its fine? any heads up on this problem?

Recording glitches could be due to a weak signal from the supplied aerial.

My Freecom DVB-T stick works perfectly when attached to the rooftop aerial, but is jerky when using the supplied one.

I'm running my DVB-T stick on a Banias 1.5 P-M laptop (essentially the same as the 1.5 C-M but with StepSpeed), albeit with 1GB of RAM.

Recording isn't too intensive on the CPU or HD and I doubt it would be hugely RAM intensive either so the signal strength is the likely cause.

Also, you might also want to try and get it working with the Yakumo BDA drivers (I posted one link to a forum thread above) as the software in general is nicer than the Freecom stuff.

Well, I've tried a few (including Cyberlink PowerCinema 4, GBPVR and MediaPortal) but getting the EPG configured is a pain in the backside since most of those ones insist on using online feeds rather than managing to get the broadcast EPG info from the Freecom stick.

The Yakumo tv viewer application is much nicer than the Freecom one, so that's one reason right there to switch to the BDA drivers.

Well i ordered one of these and the first one was faulty (would'nt pick up any channels even from the rooftop aerial).

The replacement only seems to pick up 13 channels where as my standalone freeview box picks up all the channels from the main house feed. Cant get anything with the supplied aerial.

Is there anything i am doing wrong as surely it should pick up more channels than 13?

Kind of the same for me - enclosed aerial did nothing... connected the house (analogue) aerial to a daewoo digibox downstairs - picked up 30+ channels... - bought some extension kit.. ran it upstairs - connected the same aerial to freecom toy and got nothing ?!

So... thought Id try some of the aerials (from the highsreet store with the nice return option).... nothing ... until I tried every angle in my bedroom and held it ... then got 4 channels! - left go and it lost signal :(

looks like it works and records well (desktop PC) with the right aerial - can anybody recommend a good aerial... am In the north east by the way.

What i dont understand is my standalone freeview box picks up all channels with the same aerial that i can only get 13 channels with on the freecom adaptor.
