OK, well i am getting a Xbox 360 for some gaming.

Bit unsure as to which version to get.

I want the new chipset and a hdmi out on it.

I know the "Arcade" version has the hdmi out but does it have the new chipset? I take it the premium version has it too? (Well premium i buy new from now as a popular etailer).

Is the hard drive really needed? Can i just add my own larger hard drive, or is it a special hdd/enclosure just for the 360? Does the hard drive only allow you to play older games?

Can I plug the 360 into a dell 24" monitor fine via hdmi? Does it work well?

Thanks.

Pro/premium (old name) all the way

They all have the new chipset, hard drive imo is needed, some games require it, its pretty necessary for XBLA and definitely needed for demos DLC and for Backwards compatibility. You can't add your own hard drive (you can use a USB one but only for media, not game saves)

Yes that monitor should be fine if its HDMI. I dont have any experience with that monitor so I can't tell you what the quality would be but I can't see a problem.

I'm only passing through quickly so i can't give you a full list. The best tip I have is check on the box for the wattage. 175w is the new lower power Falcon chipset, 200w (ish, can't remember the exact figure) is the older pre die shrink chipset.

Do a quick search and there's picture all over th net showing the label you're looking for.

Don't thik the Dell 2407 has HDMI in, although maybe the 2408 does if that's what you have, sorry, i'm out of date. In any case if you're connecting it to a monitor i'd suggest using the MS official VGA cable. There are third party ones but general consensus seems to be that the MS one giver better picture IQ. Oh, and def get the HDD, there's an awesome amount of downloadbale content from demos to additional leves for games and you need the HDD to store it. An external USB HDD allows you to play photos, music and video through the 360 but not save games etc.

Good luck, and get GTAIV, it's awesome :D

iirc all new 360's have HDMI and the falcon revision. best way to check is to open the box flap and look at the number before 'w', if it's 203 it's the old version, if they bring you one with that tell em you don't want it ^^

not to sure if it's only the elite that is the 65nm processor though

either way my money is with the premium, the arcade is a waste of money unless you have a spare 360 HDD and the elite is equally a waste of money as the only real differece is the 120GB hard drive which most people won't find useful anyway, and the colour is superficial, and subjective. i prefer the white version myself

hmm im awaiting my xbox too and im hoping for a falcon chipset. They have been available since july 07 so i think I should be ok unless they are getting rid of old stock.

if they send you the old one use the distance selling act to have it sent back to them, and say if they won't send you a new one you'll be taking your money else where.

i intend to buy from the highstreet so i know what i'm getting.

yeah probably will

only problem is that i got GTA4 and the xbox premium for £199.99 inc VAT delivered in a bundle - which they dont do now. its a pretty good deal but not worth the aggro of a dodgy box.

that said i do get extended warranties on eletricals with my HSBC premier card so i may be ok.
