im not sure what section this went in, so move it to the apropriate one if necessesary. Cheers

ok, ive decided on getting a bmx, and im not sure what make to get, theres soo many makes and other things to consider, im just so confused. I will be using the bike for riding (of course :p), maybe doing mini jumps, no heavy tricks and stuff as i cant do that, and will be riding with m8s on the pegs and things.

haro seems a good make (its the only make i know) as my friend has one. Im gnona be spending £50-80 as i will be getting second hand from somewhere on the net

so could i hav some advice and things please :D cheers (sorry for the essay)

I'm not the best on BMX's, however know a thing or two. Don't go getting one that is very heavy. Want a light one. Also, don't get a street one. Or flat lander tricked one. These are the longer wheel based BMXs, not fun to ride unless you ride them how they are meant to be ridden.

Try get a Haro, ir Dimondback. Although they're not the best. I'm not too sure what you could pick up for eighty pounds though?

try here Winstanleys

Its local to me and its a great place to shop from.

how do i know whether the bikes heavy? and whether the size of the wheels is right?

find the bike you want and look for the makers site and find the bikes spec, it should have the weight on the makers site.

Are you actually BMX'ing, riding to the shops, doing proper milage, what exactly?

A adult on a BMX looks stupid, unless on track/course.

well, im not an adult, and im gonna be doing a lot of mileage over time, and will be riding everywhere really, but not gnona be doing tricks or anything. Also, whats a good weight and a good wheel size?

You do know BMX's are bloody slow and inefficient for onroad cycling? One gear, and small wheels?

What exactly are you going to be riding? Just pratting around in the street? To work everyday? Short fast rides? To the shops loaded down with shopping? Long distance touring?

i like them, they are good for riding with ** mates and there not heavy or anything. im gonna be pratting about, whatever really.. not going to work, well maybe when im 16, no shopping, just me.

are there any makes that stand out from the rest?

At this sort of price level, things you need to look for are are a proper steerer clamping system (not a just a single bolt on top - needs to have pinch bolts). U brake on the rear not a cantilever.

could i add you to msn? :p you seem to know what your talking about

I would buy a proper bike, not a BMX, something with a bit more speed/comfort and gearing.

Perhaps a rigid MTB with road tyres? How about a Scott Sub 20 with 26" wheels?

nah, there too much money and id rather have a bmx. I like bmxes, nice and easy bikes to use.

It really depends what you want it for, in brighton my mate use his BMX all the time as it is only used to go around friends, to the beach and shops. If you want to do some proper distance then get a Road bike or a Hardtail.

Exactly, I used to ride with a few mates. I had a 3 speed Raleigh Commando, used to take the mick out me. Until we had a race. :D

BMX riders look pretty wobbly riding on the roads as well, don't hold much presence and I find drivers don't give them much room.

If you're doing anything more than 2 miles to the shops I would at least get a "city bike" ie Kona Smoke, that'll handle street riding, towpaths etc. I guess for a 16 year old into street riding a road bike isn't the best bike. :)
