Scratching posts are a waste of time and money. My cat used his once or twice but then decided that the he still preferred the bottom of the settee and chairs.
If your cats are anything like mine, scatter a few cardboard boxes around the house, one of my cats loves to sleep in a randomly selected box every night.

in expierience i dont think any of our cats have used there bedstheyd rather sleep upside down on a concrete floor or ballanced on top of a radiator or some other silly place

I know exactly what you mean about the boxes. Any box, no matter the size, he'd be straight into it and claiming it as his own.
