Hi,

Do you have to give your bank 1 days notice to get out something like £2500 out of a current account? If so, how? Do you just walk into your local branch and say tomorrow I will be taking £2500 out?

They don't store a great deal of cash in banks anymore, I think.

£2500 shouldn't be an issue though, I suppose as cash is now mainly from atms they dont get asked for a lot over the counter

Nope not with the lloydstsb can go in there and withdraw up to 5 k with out any one saying a thing.
but depends on how much you put in and withdraw monthly
might also be down to the bank clerks knowing me

In cash or as a bankers draft?

When I got my house deposit out I just turned up and said write me a draft for XX grand pls.

If your drawing cash then why? These days people get funny about paying for things that much in cash because of money laundering laws.

That and the whole being robbed / conned thing.

Its just so you cant ask for a million pounds out in cash, even if you have it. They have to set the limit for letting them know somewhere, so placed it fairly low. I think it's also so you cant empty someones account completely in a day even if you have their card and details.

I have taken out 6k from Barclays and they were fine about it.

I think it depends where it is located tbh.

In my village they are obviously going to ask to give a day's notice. Main Banks in the town center shouldn't be a problem.

I might be buying something privately, so I didn't know whether a bankers draft is ok.

Last summer we tried to take £1000 cash out over the counter and they refused saying that they need a drivers licence and passport to do it even though we had our debit cards with us.

At that point I stepped in and asked for the manager informing counter girl that if she didn't get him now I would close the account there and then and want the £23,000 that was currently residing in it.

Result, Bank 0 Customer 1

i have taken £4000 out without notice.

i think 5k might be the limit. just take 2 pieces of ID (drining licence and passport for example) i am sure it will be fine.

Wow, you're so cool trying to bypass protocols that are there to protect customers. £23k isn't a lot to a bank, you're still a low value customer, and it almost certainly doesn't matter to them if you close your account or not.

EDIT: People behaving in the way you do, make it easier for fraud of this nature to take place.

Thats standard procedure at any bank. As a customer I like this security.

I withdrew I think 5 or 6k in cash without prior notice.

i phoned my bank in advance and to draw out £6k in cash, i dont think it would have been a problem to of just turned up but its always good to let them know. and yes they asked me for id too.

With HSBC you can get that but you must have your cheque book with you, driving license/passport isn't good enough. However if you forget it, the kind cashier will raise your withdrawal limit for 2hours. So you can just go to the cash point.

Anything over £900 cash taken out from my local branches here in Norn Iron and I get asked what it's for  It is the Northern Bank though, to be fair.

well with my bank I paid in over £10,000 in cash over the counter at 11am, and at 3pm attempted to withdraw £3,000, nope, sorry sir, we can't do that!
3 working days please...

I would very much expect to be expected to show identification (e.g. passport) when withdrawing a lot of money, and I find it rather disconcerting when I'm not. When withdrawing about £1000 in cash from a Bradford & Bingley account, I just gave them my passbook, signed and it was there. Hardly secure, is it? All it takes is someone to get hold of the book and anything with my signature on it and they can take everything - hardly any better than carrying cash around!

I bet you'd be crying blue murder if your card was solen and you ended up being a victim of fraud through someone doing this. Those proceedures are there for a very good reason.

Idiot.
